For anyone who doesn't know; I am a senior invigilator at Walton Community School (Simons School). Due to changes in the exam system and new rules laid down by the teaching unions all schools now have to use outside exam invigilators who have had special training. Teachers no longer invigilate. The use of outside invigilation is for all public exams and National tests. In practice, at Walton they seem to call us in to invigilate absolutely everything. I think this maybe because we are a cheaper option and teachers can be "freed up".
It is getting to the stage though where I wonder how long it will be before they feel the need to have an invigilator in the class room before the teacher can do a simple quizz. Like a lot of things it is sometimes taken too far.
Anyway, it's a good job for me as I am obviously not in all the time. 2 months of solid work virtually full time in May and June but the rest of the year tends to be odd days and odd lessons. Today I am just going in for last lesson to invigilate the year 7 CATS tests. These tests are done online so once you have all the little darlings logged on it's a total doddle!
For anyone who is wondering.....CATS tests are Cognitive Ability Tests
