I am starting to feel settled in our new house. LOL. I think it stems from Simon being back at school and therefore I am back to my normal routines of housework!
The weather yesterday was glorious, 50 degrees and very bright and sunny. I took my second trip on the local bus. I went the 4 miles down the road to the market town of Bourne. I needed a supermarket if you remember! I went to Sainsbury's and got what I needed plus 2 pairs of black leggings and a huge bath sheet reduced to £6. It is a sort of duck egg colour which will look much better than the current colours I have which clash horribly with the new bathrooms.
I was really pleased with it and the colour works so I will go in there again on Saturday to see if they have any more left. I was pleased with the leggings too. Now just why would one be pleased with black leggings? Because they are too big that's why! I have to take them back.
That reminds me, I weighed myself today for the first time since we moved and it seems that over Christmas and New Year I gained a pound. I'm not surprised as I really did eat whatever I wanted and of course there was the red stuff. Time now to get serious again. I only have a few pounds to go to my next goal.
Oh, I forgot to say earlier about the lad that I met at the bus stop. I was there on my own and I saw him come round the corner; I knew he was coming to the bus stop. He was casually dressed but well dressed if that makes sense, maybe a bit what my kids would call chavvy. Anyway, once he was at the bus stop he said “Mornin', not seen you here before”. I was pretty gob-smacked. He was about 20 and I am not used to 20 year olds striking up a conversation.!
Really. Where we lived before no one would make conversation with you, certainly not a youngster. Most people didn't even make eye contact. Actually, maybe that's not quite true, sometimes a little old lady or man may talk to you. Anyway, this young lad who was catching the bus to go to work chatted to me the whole time. He was very pleasant. He sat across the aisle from me on the bus and told me all about the different bus tickets and where you can go to and what time the buses go. Most helpful. He even made sure when we got off that I knew where Sainsbury's was.
I had the man come yesterday to do the estimate for the garden fence. It is a big job and I have a nasty idea from the way he was talking that it may be even more than we are thinking. Good news though is that we will gain some more garden. For some reason the fence at the end of our garden has been erected about 5 feet in! The garden is about 38 feet wide so multiply that by the 5 and that is quite a chunk. We are waiting for the estimate now but the bad news was that it will be 3-4 weeks before he can do it.
We have an area outside the back door near the garage which is fenced and safe so I am just letting the dogs out there during the day. It is concrete. Loulou will not “go” on concrete! Last night Simon came home with a large piece of the astro turf that was left over when we had our little garden done with it in Bretton. He figured that she is used to that and therefore if he lays it temporarily on the concrete all will be fine. Sure enough out she went and promptly did a wee! This is good news as it will save her crossing her legs all day. Simon is taking them in the garden on leads. We dare not risk another incident like Sundays. I am desperate for the fence to be done.
Today is a much colder day and windy. We are due for rain later too so I am going nowhere. I have been busy with housework so far. Cleaning, hoovering, ironing etc. This is a much smaller house to clean. The hoovering takes no time at all. Oh, speaking of hoovering reminds me that the carpet shop phoned earlier with the quote for the carpet and it is better than we had hoped. They are pretty sure that we will not need to replace the underlay so that will save a good chunk of cash. We are going to go in on Saturday and pay for it.
It will only take a few days to get in so can be fitted quite soon except that we must have the granite hearth laid first. They are supposed to be doing that tomorrow but we have heard nothing. I am going to ring them shortly. For some reason I do not have a good feeling about it. Oops...self fulfilling prophecy...... not good........ I have a great feeling about it.....tomorrow evening we will have a lovely new hearth.
OK, that's me done for now. It's time for coffee and a rice cake and banana for lunch and then I am going to do some embroidery.
