A numbered catch up

Good heavens it is 5 days since I managed to get here. Time flies when you’re having fun! Think I'll do a quick numbered catch up.

  1. Friday Coralie came over with Denise. We didn't do any sewing but had a lovely catch up and a nice lunch and made plans for how we are going to work our sewing sessions in future. Not sure that I am entirely happy with this as it involves me being up at the crack of dawn to go in with Simon so he can drop me at Coralie's house!
  2. Saturday the fence man came and helped chop the trees and old fence panels into more manageable pieces. Simon then went off to Peterborough to collect a compressor that he had brought from a friend. While he was gone I loaded the trailer myself. I wish I had thought to take photos as it was piled high and it was a lot of work. The fence guy had lent us netting to help secure it.
After lunch Simon took the first load to the dump. He then went off to Grantham to take our new next door neighbour to a scarp yard. Stuart had had a car accident the day before and wrecked his car. He asked Simon for a lift to the scrapyard so he could get some parts. It is a half hour drive away and we couldn't really spare the time but thought it was a good idea to be helpful and neighbourly.
Simon promised to phone when they got there. I was a bit worried as it was really windy. Of course he forgot. I started ringing his mobile about an hour later. It was over 3 hours before he finally rang me back, by which time I was beside myself with worry and in a real state. Bloody man, he knows that I worry. Despite all that I did manage to carry most of the wood down to the concreted area in front of the garage as I thought that would make loading up easier.
  3. On Sunday we spent pretty much the whole day loading the trailer and doing runs to the dump. There were 6 runs in total. I spent the time while Simon was driving back and forth collecting up as much of the small bits that I could. We need to get it all off the grass as it will wreck the lawn mower when that time comes around.
  4. Ohhh........that reminds me, something else to add to the must buy list....... a lawn mower. We don't have one as the other house had astro turf.
  5. Speaking of the other house reminds me of something else that I meant to tell you. Our old house is sold subject to contract. Guess who the buyer is? As the estate agents said the last person you would imagine. Remember Mrs Shackelton? Yes, that Mrs Shackelton, the one who pulled out from our sale at the last minute back in October! She put in the asking price to David Wilson Homes (current owners) and they have accepted it despite the agents telling them what she did before. Hmmm..... whatever dreadful thing they claimed had happened and forced them to pull out of our sale seems to have sorted itself out now.
  6. Monday was a day of housework. Things had been a bit neglected over the weekend and lots of debris walked in from the garden so there was plenty to keep me busy. I also walked up to the post office to post my present for baby Zain.
  7. Guess what I have found? I have found the analemmatic sundial! It is right there on the grass verge in front (or behind, depending on how you look at it) of the sign. I SWEAR it was not there when I first saw that sign. It wasn't. It couldn't have been, I looked all round. I reckon aliens had removed it and now they have returned it. I still can't find any information on why it is there. It must have been to commemorate something. I notice the sign says 2004 and Morton won the best kept village competition in 2004. (A National competition in which villages are judged on, amongst other things, how clean and tidy they are and how pretty etc.)
  8. Yesterday was a bit of a lazy day really. It was so grey and grotty it just made me feel like hibernating. It didn't stop raining all day. I did a few jobs and then did some research into a few projects that I am thinking of. Anyone got an Etsy site or know anything about Etsy? Have you purchased from Etsy? I am thinking about it. I took delivery of a large parcel yesterday morning. It's my wormery. I decided to go ahead and get one as I have thought about it for ages. It is a 3 tray one, which is 75 litres and I think that should be ample.

  9. Today has been a bit warmer and the rain has stopped. Not too much wind either. It is bloody windy out here in the Lincolnshire Fens. We are really noticing it. It's because the whole area is totally flat. I guess my Merikan friends probably don't know about the Fens. I'll have to do a blog.........when I can find time. LOL.
I put the wormery together this morning. Just 1 tray high at the moment as you add further trays as they fill up. I need to decide where to put it. I think just outside the back door so it is convenient. It will have a bit of shelter from the wind there too. I haven't set it up yet as Coralie is bringing the boys over tomorrow so that they can be involved. I'll let them put the worms into their new home!
The worms are in a sealed bag so I can't see them. I am assured that they will be OK in there for several days but there doesn't seem to be any movement. I hope we don't open up a bag of dead wormies! Somehow I expected to see the bag wriggling and it isn't.
Most of today I have been busy cutting out and piecing fabric. When Coralie was here on Friday she showed me a quilt that she is doing for a baby. It is made up of 4 quilted squares, 1 for each of the seasons. It is going to be really good. I liked it, so decided to have a go at doing my own. I have drawn a plan for each one and have cut all the pieces out for summer. I have even sewn a couple of them. I need to order in some supplies though. I need a few different coloured cottons and a few bits of fabric. I am using up scraps but there are a few colours that I just don't have. Guess I'll go on Ebay tonight and see what I can find. A few fat quarters should do it.

  10. Well there you go now you know what I have been up to. It's 5.30pm and I am doing this while dinner cooks. I am doing lamb shanks which I LOVE. Lots of veggies and mint gravy.............yummy. I made a banana and chocolate chip loaf cake this afternoon which has turned out pretty yummy too. I really shouldn't eat it though as I only lost half a pound last week. I am still trying to diet but haven't really got back in the swing of things yet.
Hey ho........ such is life. I had best go now as Simon will be in at 6pm and I have that gravy to make yet.
