Monday morning catch up

So here we are with only one more day of January to go.  Doesn't seem possible.  Doesn't seem possible that we have been in our house now 6 and a half weeks.  Strangely it feels much, much longer and yet I can't believe how much we have done in just a matter of weeks.

I was thinking about the old house the other night while Simon was snoring away.  I hate the idea of someone else living in it.  In my head it will always be our house.  I was a bit upset.  I don't exactly miss that house and I love this new one but......... well the old house has lots of happy memories and this one doesn't .....yet.

It has been a very cold weekend.  So cold in fact that I have had to bring my wormery inside temporarily.  I don't want them all dying off before they can get established.  They become very sluggish in the cold.  If it is really cold they will die.  They seem to be ok.  There have been no escapees. Apparently they will only try to escape in the first day or 2, after that the little ecosystem should be growing and they will be happy and content.  You have to give them 2 weeks to settle before you can start to feed them the houshold waste.

I had a lovely day on Friday, I spent it doing some sewing.  I have made a little brooch the same as the ones I made for Christmas.

I have also done a bit more work on the spring and summer squares for my seasons quilted wall hanging.

Saturday  we got started on the wall papering.  Well Simon did the wall papering.  It is not something that I have ever, or would ever contemplate.  I did some painting.  This is me painting the area above the picture rail white.

The wall papering took the entire weekend.  It is a very fiddly room to do as there are only a few full drops.  The others are all half bits above and below windows or fiddly bits around corners. Every wall has something on it, a window, a door or a chimney breast.   Once the white paint was done I got started on the walls with the colour we had chosen which is called Lambs Wool.  It has dried much darker than I thought but it is ok we like it.  We may change our mind now about the chimney breast colour.   It may be too dark.  Plus we only need a small can and they only sell it in 2.5lt which is huge!

This morning I have finished up the last of the can of paint giving the first wall a second coat. I am amazed at how this paper just eats the paint.  I was surprised too at how many bits I had missed despite really working the paint in.    I have only done 2 walls.   Simon is getting more paint on his way home from school but as he has a parents evening tonight and won't be in until about 8pm any more painting is going to have to wait until tomorrow.    I really want to get this finished this week.

Right, I have finished my coffee so time to get down to a bit of housework now.  I need to wash down some of the cupboards and walls in the utility room.  Poor Alfie has knocked his tail and got a nasty sore on it again which keeps bleeding.  Of course he wags his tail and blood splatters!  He has it bandaged up now so that will stop it for a while.  He is very good at keeping the bandage on.  He only pulls it off at night when he is in his box.   His eye is much better now so bathing it several times a day has worked.

Ok, time to move my bum into gear!
