Christmas music - day 13 - Silent night in German.

This one is a bit different too.  It is another carol - Silent Night.  The reason it is different is that most of it is sung in German!  I learnt German at school.  I can remember very little of it now and I was never very good at it anyway.  However we performed Silent Night in German during the carol concert of my last year and for some reason I have never forgotten it.  I can still sing it now.  Just goes to show the power of singing as a learning aid.

The version I originally posted of a choir singing didn't work so this is  a different version!

The original lyrics of the song "Stille Nacht" were written in German by the Austrian priest, Father Josef Mohr, and the melody was composed by the Austrian school headmaster, Franz Xaver Gruber. It was first performed in 1818 at Oberndorf, in the province of Salzburg, Austria. Today, it is sung in over 300 languages and dialects throughout the world.
