This is hopefully a quickie blog as I am looking after Flynn this morning and I need to get a few things done before he arrives. I'm quite looking forward to it as I never have just Flynn on his own, it's always the 2 of them. Ev is at pre school this morning.
Thought I would do a “matters arising” blog like my friend Sue does sometimes. It is a good idea as I do often forget to answer comments!
- speaking of Sue reminds me...... a very big thank you to Sue who very kindly offered me the chance to visit her again. She even offered red wine and secret chocolates. Not to mention the chance to fondle the donkeys ears which she assures me is good for stress. Thank you Sue. I did actually look at the flights to Knock airport but couldn't get anything at the right price until the middle of next week and hopefully by then I will be busy packing. THANK YOU. I will get over there one day.
- Talking of moving....... Jenny said: If you own the land the garage is sitting on, then you must also own the leasehold to the flat above the garage! If not, how has someone managed to build on there and then leased it out?
The flats have always been above the garages. They were originally owned by the council but are all private now. We own the garage freehold.......have title deeds to prove it! The flat is nothing to do with us. They seem to think that a mistake was made when the garage was first sold. IE. It should have been leasehold. I do find it strange that this has never been picked up on before. Not to mention that surely the Land Registry should have noticed? It is registered. Can a freehold registered at HM Land Registry be disputed? - Whilst we are on the subject of the house and moving..... Wendy said: Definitely have a "me" day and don't ring the agent/solicitor - no news is good news Well of course I did speak to them both yesterday afternoon and then got upset! We are marginally further on in that they have got details of the indemnity policy which has been passed to the buyers solicitor. We are still waiting to here from the local authority’s highways department as to the unadopted road. I am hopeful that this may be today. I will not be contacting any of them today unless they contact me. I am still told moving day will be the 15th. I have put another countdown up above!
- Thank you for all the anniversary congratulations. 32 years is quite an achievement especially given the number of times that I wanted to go home to my Mum in the first year! We had a lovely meal out last night and I think I ate 2 days worth of pro points not forgetting the large glass of red stuff! Oh well best start walking it off.
- Talking of which, Nancy said: Your suppose to aim for 10,000 steps a day I think. Half a mile is a good start. Hmmm...my pedometer recorded 4222 steps yesterday so I have a way to go! As I am not planning on going out today I had better get walking round the house. That will wind the dogs up!
- I did get quite a bit of sewing done yesterday. I have finished the dolls quilts. Jenny said: I've sewn the backing to the front of the quilt, now all I have to do is put the wadding in and that's what's going to take time, cos after that - it's the quilting part!!! I am intrigued Jenny. If you have sewn the backing to the front how the hell do you get the wadding in? I have been taught to layer all 3 then quilt it and then bind it?
- Several comments relating to buttons and button holes. Nancy said: I love doing buttons on my machine, but not button holes, they are hard to get right. Nancy give the button holes a try. They were easy peasy once we learnt how to attach the button hole foot contraption! You stick your fabric under, press go and it does it automatically while you just sit back and watch! Magic. My machine does 13 different kinds although when or why I would need 13 different kinds of button holes at this stage is beyond me.
- Summer said: You'd need an iron needle for your machine to do those buttons, watch out for flying needles! When they break they can fly through the air and end up who knows where. I am pleased to say that the machine made an excellent job of sewing my buttons on my brooches. I did bend one needle when I misaligned the button but it didn't break. I tried to bend it back to shape but it didn't work. Had to put in a new one. I do have one problem now though which is that on normal sewing the tension seems to have gone wrong. The tension on my machine is all automatic depending on which stitch you are using and which foot. You can of course alter it manually but I need to read up how to do this as I have never had to. I'm a bit worried that the automatic thingy is not kicking in.
- Everyone seems to think that I have been cheerful the last few days. Hmmm not too sure about that! I think I have sounded different to how I feel. I am still grumpy! I will be cheerful when we get those damn contracts exchanged.
- At some time over the weekend I will publish the DPT list for January. Yes, I know it is only the 2nd of December! There are quite a few new DPT's courtesy of Mama Bear. It has occurred to me that assuming that we do move as planed, that I may well be MIA for a while as we have no idea how long BT will take to get our phone and internet up and running especially given it will be right before Christmas and new year. Plus I will be busy. So it seems like a good idea to give it to you early in case I am not around.
OK, I think that is all the “matters arising” dealt with. I need to go and do a few jobs now. Simon gets in at 3.30pm today. He is off out this evening to the schools Christmas dinner and party. I was invited but declined. I don't really know anyone and hate those kind of do's. We have a busy weekend. We are off to visit Verity and Steve for the day tomorrow. We are taking Coralie and the boys with us too. Sunday we may go to the allotment for a while weather permitting.
