Tuesday 8th of May

One week of May gone already.  The year is zipping past at an alarming rate.  I am having a slow day again.  My headache has gone but I'm tired and lacking in motivation. We had some bad news last night regarding my cousin Wendy's Mum; that is my Mums sister, my Aunt Glad.  She is very poorly and Wendy is with her in the hospital.  She has Alzheimers just the same as my Mum. It is not going to be long.  I hope for Wendy's sake that it is sooner rather than later and that Aunt Glad will go peacefully with Wendy at her side.  I feel terribly sad.
The weather still isn't helping.  It has not rained so far today but it is very cold and quite grey.  The forecast is for rain later this afternoon.  In fact the forecast shows rain for the whole week.  Yesterday we had rain on and off all day and then in the evening it absolutely poured.  I haven't seen rain so heavy in a good while and considering we have had heavy rain for weeks now, that is saying something!
The "hole" in the back garden where Simon has been digging out rubble to prepare for the garage extension actually overflowed last night!  It had maybe 3 inches of water in it and then suddenly it was full and flowing over the path!  I think because our garden slopes down slightly that the water from the fields behind the house must drain down this way.  Simon has reached a layer of clay so it is not draining away.  What is weird is we keep being told that there is no ground water.  They should come here!
This is what it looks like this morning.
The whole garden is a total tip. Water, mud and rubble everywhere.  Simon did attempt to cut the grass at the weekend but it just tore it up.  It is a right mess now.
The pile of rubble at the end of the garden is nearly as high as the fence.  He is putting it there so that he can eventually break it up and use it as hard core for the foundations.  God knows when that will be.  He is still on about getting a little digger in.  My brother in law came equipped and ready to help yesterday but it was raining.
Simon did get a little bit more of the wardrobe done yesterday. (It was a bank holiday in the UK).  He did the middle shelves.  He started them in the morning when I was trying to tidy up as my sister and Dad were coming for dinner!  Men! He got them in place last night but they have to come out again as he has decided the unit needs a back for stability.   He also needs to put in extra supports for  the top shelves as my sister noticed that the one Simon's side is bowing slightly.  Simon had already seen that. He had also seen that his hanging rail is 10mm out and so is sloping!!!  So all that has to come out and be done again.  Maybe some time, I will get a wardrobe.
I walked to the post office this morning and met my next door neighbour Sandra with her little dog Whiskey.  While we were talking another neighbour came out of his house to talk to Sandra and so I got introduced to a lovely little old couple called Sid and Anne.  They are 7 houses down from me.  They seems very nice.  I didn't like the fact that Sid said he heard on the news that we are going to have snow next week!  NOOOOOOOOOOOO.
While I was on my way to the post office I took a couple of photos for a new friend of mine. To you and I these are not going to look like nice photo's but my new friend specialises in dereliction photography. I had told her that there is an old pub on the main road waiting to be knocked down and promised her some photos.  Simon would like those large wrought iron brackets that you can see hanging on the side.  They would be great for hanging baskets.  Bet they will just be scrapped.
OK, I'm off to do some ironing now.
