1st December

Photobucket
Well it was a good weekend.  We had everyone except Verity here for a family dinner yesterday.  Verity of course was unable to come all the way from Southampton. She will be home for Christmas at the end of the school term which is the 19th
I made a lovely chocolate cake sandwiched together with strawberries, raspberries and cream.  It had thick chocolate icing which is an old school recipe from my long ago cookery lessons!  We had roast lamb courtesy of my Dad and cooked by Simon with lots of garlic.  It was delicious.  It was just a real shame that Sam, Lisa and Ellie are all still really poorly.
Today as you will all know by now, is my 29th wedding anniversary.  I have been celebrating on my own as Simon of course has to work.  He won’t even be in until late as he does his welding course on Monday evenings straight from school. We did exchange cards this morning but few words as I am not good in the morning!!  Simon also got me some lovely roses and we did go out for a meal on Saturday night so I’m not complaining!
I have had a lovely day. I have done lots of house work as always including all the bed linen and lots of ironing. The rest of the day I have spent going through old photos which I have been meaning to do for ages.  Our wedding photos bought back lots of memories.  I have scanned some of them and I have made a photo show of them.  Some scanned ok and some came out with weird marks on them!

I found a small wedding keep sake book which was really interesting to look through as it had lots of details, some of which I had forgotten.  So to refresh my memory, I’m putting some facts here.
I married Simon on Saturday the 1st of December 1979, at 2pm at All Saints Church in the village of Datchworth.  Our reception afterwards was held at Aston village hall.  Simon’s best man was Julian Beavis his best friend at the time although they sadly lost touch soon after our wedding, probably because we moved hundreds of miles in one direction, whilst Julian moved a similar distance in the other direction!
I had my sister Julie as my maid of honour and 3 bridesmaids.  Simon’s youngest sister Anna and his 2 young cousins Sarah and Louise. Many years later our youngest daughter Saskia was bridesmaid to Louise.
Looking at the photos made me really wonder what we were thinking when we dressed everyone.  I am in a loose flowing “smock” and my bridesmaid’s look like they are in their night dresses!  Things were different back then!  My Dad made Anna’s one, my sister made her own and Simon’s aunt made his cousins ones.  Mine was from a shop but as my wedding was brought forward by nearly a year I didn’t have time to go round searching millions of shops for the “right” one like girls seem to now. We didn’t have much money then either. As for my white shoes...no comment!!!
Before you all start wondering.........no it wasn’t brought forward because of a pregnancy!!  Sam was born on the 29th of November 1980 which is 1 year and 2 days after our wedding!!  The story of why it was brought forward is a long one and probably best not told here!   Suffice it to say that other members of Simon’s family didn’t have to change all their plans! Naughty girl, shouldn’t even have said that!
Our service was carried out by the reverend Paul Betts according to the modern series 3 service.  It was all quite traditional with “Here comes the bride” for the entrance music and “The Wedding March” for our exit.  We had 3 hymns sung during the service which were, “The king of love my shepherd is”, “Lead us heavenly father lead us” and “Praise my soul the king of heaven”.
The wedding was attended mainly by family and a few friends.  My Nan on my Dad’s side was there. She was my only living grand parent.  Simon had his Nonna and Nonno from his Mother’s side there.  The reception afterwards had loads of our friends.  Looking through my book I see that we had a dinner of tomato soup followed by roast turkey and trimmings and then black forest gateau and cream.  I would never have remembered that.
It has been really interesting looking back and the photos that have everyone I n are just great as some of those people are no longer with is.  In particular it was lovely to see both my uncle Jack (Wendy’s dad) and my uncle Ron who have both sadly passed away now.
I have really enjoyed myself.  I have just had a lamb sandwich and a slice of cake as I can’t be bothered to cook just for myself.  I have a glass of wine and am going to sit and watch Eastenders shortly.  After that I am going to try and scan some, more photos.  I have been promising you all for a long time some photos of our first dog, Buick, so I will try and do that for tomorrow.
