My day has not been too bad. It didn't get off to the best start as we were late up and Simon wasn't feeling well. I had planned to travel to Stevenage on the train today but at one point I nearly went in the car because of Simon still being in bed.
Anyway, he got up and took me to the station. Because of traffic and then queueing for 15 minutes to buy my ticket, I only got the train by the skin of my teeth. Typically the train was the one going from the far platform too. The silly man selling the tickets also tried to charge me £38.00! Good job that I had done my research and knew that for the 9.15am train I could have a "business saver" for £24.30. This was only resolved when I insisted he fetched the manager!
Anyway, I managed to get to Stevenage where the weather was foul and of course I had no umbrella! Fortunately, I only waited a few minutes before Julie picked me up. We were lucky too and managed to get a parking place in the main hospital car park. A nice man even gave us his ticket with 3 hours left on it so we didn't have to pay.
The appointment with Wendy Ward wasn't as good. She is a lovely lady but was unable to offer us any real help or advice. She mainly just repeated back to us what we told her. She did tell us that it would get worse! We already know that. She did say that they could possibly arrange a day a week "day care" to give my Dad a break but we know that he won't accept that at the moment.
Once we finished with her, Julie had to get back to work but she dropped me off at Mum and Dads so I could go in for a coffee. It seemed silly not to call in after paying for the train. When I went in Mum was all in a state and saying she wasn't right today and felt anyhow. She seemed very depressed which was something that Wendy Ward did mention and said that they would assess her for at her next appointment.
Dad said that he wanted to go to the town because he had some birthday cards he needed to buy so I tried suggesting that we all go. Mum didn't like that idea saying she couldn't possibly go out because she wasn't well and it was cold. I suggested that I stay with her while Dad went but she wasn't having that either.
To cut a long story short we eventually did manage to get her to go. She moaned all the way to the bus stop about the cold and kept on saying "why can't we go in the car, I prefer the car." I tried to get her to understand that it is easier for Dad not to have to bother with the car and that they both need the fresh air and excersie. She didn't like that!
Dad had an appointment with his GP on Friday and his blood pressure is very high, probably because of the stress of his circumstances. His GP did tell him that he needs to get out and get some light exersise to help his knee. Not easy when he can't leave Mum and she mostly refuses to go out.
Once we got to the town, I tried to get her to agree to come and have some lunch with me as she was worried about it being lunch time. She wouldn't do that either though as " We don't do that kind of thing and wev'e got lunch at home!" So in the end I left them to it and went across to the station to wait for a train home.
I got back about 3pm and got a bus home. I now have quite a headache and feel quite stressed. The worse thing is that I feel that we acheived nothing. I am hopefully going to have a quiet evening tonight and hopefully I will sleep. Tomorrow, I need to get some housework done as I am going back up to Stevenage on Thursday. I think I will just drive myself this time even though that is stressful.
