Breast cancer awareness month

I expect most of you know that in the UK, October is breast cancer awareness month with the official day for events being October the 19th.  It is something that I always support as it is something that has touched the lives of several of my relatives including my Mum.  Most of us will know someone who has been affected by it.
Nearly 44,000 women and just over 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. The chances of surviving the disease have improved enormously in recent years - thanks to better detection and treatments, but still more than 12,500 people die each year from the disease. The charities who are carrying out further research and who also offer aid and support to sufferers always need more funds.
The "Think Pink" campaign is big over here and I always make sure to buy a couple of things.  I have a whole collection of the pins which goes back over quite a few years.  When I worked at school I had them attached to my lanyard.  I also refused to wear a Voyager lanyard and wore my own one from Asda's "Tickled Pink" range.  Oh yeah, I'm a rebel!
This year I have purchased the latest pin and also a black T shirt with a small logo on it.  It looks quite nice with jeans.  I do think we should all do our bit to help raise funds even if it's just the purchase of a £1 pin badge.  After all you never know your life could be touched by this in the future.
Break through breast cancer  research are running a campaign this year called Touch look and check.  TLC.  It is aimed at making women more aware of what is right for them as an individual and what may need checking out.  You can sign a pledge to help raise money here: http://www.touchlookcheck.org.uk/talktlc.php
Did you know each year since 2000, over 1000 global landmarks have been lit pink for Breast Cancer Awareness by the Estee Lauder Companies Global Illumination Initiative. Here are some UK land marks
