I have just had some exciting news. I had an email this morning from a lady at Radox UK asking me to phone her as I have won the Glamour magazine competition. Before I could ring her she actually rang me. I have won a 2 nights, three day, luxury Spa break at the Champneys Spa Hotel of my choice. The prize includes meals and treatments and is worth over £700!! I am thrilled. As most of you are aware, I could do with a nice relaxing break. I can choose to go anytime I want after Christmas. The earliest I could go is February half term. That’s assuming that I choose to take Simon with me!! He’d better behave…only joking! Entering competitions is one of my hobbies. I belong to the National Compers Alliance and they send me 2 magazines a month full of competitions. I also belong to several online competition clubs which have literally hundreds of post card and web competitions every week. Over the years I have won lots of things, mostly small stuff but a few bigger wins. A few years back I won a big American style “Smeg” fridge. It was way too big for us so I sold it on eBay and used the money to buy a new cooker! I guess in terms of money that is my biggest win so far. I have yet to win the car or the holiday but I am convinced that my turn will come soon. Some stuff that I’ve won: Videos, DVD’s, CD’s, tickets to various events, a family rail card, a scalectix kit, a step box and video, books, a water feature, stuffed toys, T. shirts, base ball caps, a child’s scooter, play station games, a nail care kit, a picnic hamper, £220 of Boots vouchers, olive oil, £10 Selfridges voucher, digital cam-corder, cinema tickets, circus tickets, film premier tickets, first edition book and signed film poster, Phantom of the opera film memorabilia, a luxury yachting day, £100 of kaleidoscope vouchers, toiletries and hair care stuff.………………the list is endless!! The water feature I gave to my mum and dad and it is still looking good in their garden. Many of the books, videos, DVD’s and Cd’s I have given away. Other stuff has made surprising amounts of money on EBay! I try to give away stuff that I don’t want but if nobody wants it I will sell it. I had a “Magic roundabout” T shirt that sold for £12, an England rugby top that sold for £20 and the “Phantom of the Opera film memorabilia stuff sold for nearly £400! Entering competitions can be lucrative as well as fun. (Although do watch out for the scammers out there who will try to convince you that you have won their competition….just ring this premium rate number, yeah right) I will repeat: YOU CANNOT WIN SOMETHING YOU NEVER ENTERED. Give it a go, enter some online competitions, they cost you nothing and you may just be surprised at how lucky you are. Me? I am still convinced that this is my year to win the car or the exotic holiday. It needs to happen fast, not much of this year left! And to all those including members of my own family who mock my hobby, just remember that when I win my car……..YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED IN IT! OK!!
