DPT X 2

I’m behind, again!  I have good intentions but it is a bit hectic here right now. Of course it is the school half term here too so Simon is home and that always means I get less time.  Anyway.... Let’s get on with it shall we?
Yesterday’s theme was: 20. Your favourite book or the one you are reading now. Well I would find it really hard to choose my favourite book or even my favourite author. I love reading and read every single day.  Always have done since childhood.  My Mum always called me a little book worm.  Mind you she used to get very annoyed when I didn’t always do what I was asked straight away.  “Just a few more minutes, I’m nearly at the end of the chapter”!   I still use that today with Simon when it is lights out time!
As a young child a favourite author was Enid Blyton.  I loved her books and read every single one.  I wanted to live in the enchanted Wood and then I wanted to go to boarding school!  A friend of a friend (can’t remember who) recently alerted me to the fact that there is a film out called simply “Enid” and it is the story of her life.  It is a fascinating film.  She really wasn’t a very nice person and I would never have guessed that.
As an older child I read all of the books by Noel Streatfield. I loved Ballet Shoes the story of the little Fossil girls.  Then there was the “Gemma” series and of course they made me want to go to stage school!  LOL.  Books can be a huge influence.
I will read pretty much anything although I have to be quite desperate to read science fiction or fantasy books. Someone on here (again I can’t remember who) recently recommended the Disc World series by Terry Pratchett. I thought it was worth a try so I downloaded a trial chapter for free to my Kindle.  It was the first in the disc world series.  Let’s just say I am glad that I hadn’t paid for it!  I did read that first chapter but couldn’t make head nor tail of it!  I thought it a load of drivel.  I do know that there are millions out there who like that drivel though so I am probably a minority.
One of my favourite authors today is Penny Vincenzi.  I have read all of her books and am always on the lookout for the next one.  Coralie introduced me to mystery and murder books a few years back and I really quite like authors such as Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs.  I have read a fair few Dean Koontz recently too.
I just LOVE reading and I will always love the smell and feel of a brand new book.  BUT, I LOVE my Kindle too.  It makes bed time reading so much easier and you can download lots of stuff for free. I have been re-reading some of the classics form my childhood such as “What Katy did” and “Heidi”. It’s brilliant.
Good heavens that really needed a blog on its own!!!!
Monday’s theme was: 21. Your local newspaper.  Our local newspaper is the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.  I never buy it unless I know someone who is in it and might wish to have the clipping. This photo was the most recent I could find on the net.  We do get a free local paper each week too but that goes straight into the recycling.  I never read it.  I hate the news; it is always just so depressing.  I try not to watch the news on the TV either, although Simon likes to see the BBC evening news.  I get the headlines on my computer each morning and that is more than enough for me.
Of course today’s headline was about the devastating earth quake in Christchurch, NZ.  It is just sad for those poor people coming only 5 months after the last one.  This one is much worse and I heard earlier that 65 are dead but many more are still trapped.  I have a very good friend who lives in Christchurch and I have waited all day to hear if her and her family are ok.
She finally posted on facebook an hour or so back to say that they are safe but their house is totally stuffed.  She was actually away at the time and had to endure a 5 hour wait before she knew her son and husband were safe. My heart goes out to them.  I can’t even contemplate it.
A few years back there was an earth quake here.  Well not here in Peterborough, I think it was up near Leicester or somewhere but we felt it.  At least that is, I felt it!  Everyone else in our house slept through it.  I was awake as I often am in the middle of the night and there was a bang like an explosion and then a moment of stillness and silence and then this horrid shaking.  I was so scared.  It was absolutely nothing at all compared to what these people have faced today in New Zealand so I can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through.
Today’s theme is: 22. Something that relates to your zodiac sign.
I shall get around to today’s theme shortly.  Well after I have watched Eastenders anyway!
The themes for the rest of this week are:
23. Your coat or winter clothing.
24.  Something abstract.
25. Something you have made.
26. Something someone made just for you.
27.  The last place you visited.
28.  Your work place.
