A very quick blog while I have a very quick cup of coffee. I have been busy all day preparing food for a birthday picnic for Coralie this evening.......weather permitting. It has been warm but over cast all day. The last twenty minutes or so it looks like it is going to start pouring down!!! We aren't going for another couple of hours, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
We are going to Ferry Meadows, which is a country park. I have prepared sandwiches, chicken drum sticks, rice salad with prawns and potato salad. We have an assortment of crisps and dips. For dessert, I have done a huge bowl of strawberries and a big bowl of whipped cream. Saskia has made the birthday cake.
I have organised her cards and presents, candles for the cake, paper plates, plastic cutlery and cups, napkins, even a bag for rubbish. I have a ball for Ellie and a bubble machine thing. I have some beers and a couple of bottles of wine. Now I am sitting here wondering what I might have forgotten!
It's been a busy few days. We have had Ellie with us the last 2 days as her Mummy had some work. She was such a good girl. She even slept for a few hours in our travel cot, which she has never been in before.
Yesterday was my Mums 79th birthday so we went up to visit her in the hospital along with Saskia, my sister, my Dad and of course Ellie. We think Mum had a nice time although of course she didn't understand that it was her birthday. We couldn't interest her in her cards or presents. She did get pleasure out of seeing Ellie though, which was lovely. It's just so sad that she has no idea who she is. My Mum would have been so thrilled by her 2 Great Grandchildren before the illness.
Several of you commented on how well she looks. They do their very best to take care of the patients where my Mum is and for that I am extremely grateful. She is very, very thin, weighs about 6 stone. She refuses nearly all food now. To us she just doesn't look anything like her old self. They do keep them looking nice though and Dad is always buying her new clothes so she still looks well dressed.
Times like birthdays are when it hits me worst. It's very, very sad and my Dad still can't come to terms with the way things have gone. It's a sad ending for his life. Mums too, but of course she doesn't know. Right got to go and start getting stuff packed into bags before I sit here and upset myself. The rain hasn't come yet.
Just remembered to add this video, it is so sweet. My cousin Pat emailed it to me.
