Well, I must have been busy since last Friday because I haven't managed any blogging time until today. I have been looking at your pages though and leaving comments on some.
We were lucky on Friday and the weather did stay dry, if not terribly warm. We had a lovely picnic at Ferry Meadows and Rosie was allowed to come too as it was her Birthday as well as Coralie's. She was very good and got lots of special treats as well as birthday cake. I will put some photos up soon.
I have posted the photos of my Mums birthday last Thursday and also a video of 6 week old baby Evan with his Grandad and his Mummy. (Yahoo peeps will have to visit Multiply to view).
On Saturday we went to the Cambridge Folk festival with Coralie and Evan. John was already there working, as it is one of his Company's "gigs". We met up with my cousin Wendy and her husband Nick. They go for the whole Thurs - Mon experience. Nick, in particular really loves it.
The weather wasn't very good and there were some very heavy down pours which meant that the marquees which hold the stage area became very crowded. We had got ourselves a good spot early on by a side wall, near the back, but we were soon being squeezed.
Many of you will know that I am not good with crowds and hate having anyone too near me. As it turned out, it was all a bit too much for me and as I only really went to see Wendy, we decided that I would get the train home. Sorry Wendy!!
Actually, it worked out for the best as Simon and Coralie were able to stay and see all the evening bands, which they really enjoyed. They had a brilliant time. Simon has been looking up some of the artistes that he didn't know on the Internet. If I hadn't gone home early, we would have all had to have left by 6pm at the latest to get home for the dogs.
The train journey was a bit of a nightmare due to engineering works, but I did get a bus straight away when I got to Peterborough. The dogs were OK although they had let themselves out of the kitchen! They also needed "wee's", so all in all, I think it was the right decision for me to come home. I did enjoy catching up with Wendy. We don't see each other often enough.
Sunday we spent catching up on chores and Sam popped in for a while with Ellie. Then on Monday we were looking after Ellie from 11am until 5.30pm when Sam collected her on his way home from work. She was so good. there was just her and I in the morning as Simon had gone to his barn. In the afternoon, Coralie came with Evan and Saskia also dropped in. I don't think she can resist her niece and nephew!
We all walked up to the library and shops. Saskia took Ellie into the children's section while I chose some books. I think Ellie just enjoyed pulling books off the shelves! We did enjoy the chocolate Nanny got us in Sainsburys!
Yesterday, Simon and I went into the city centre to do some shopping. He needed new suits and shirts for School. It's funny isn't it, how everyone remembers kitting out their children for the start of the new school year, nobody realises that the teachers do the same! It's as much hassle too!
He got one suit in Marks and Spencer's with extra trousers to match. It took forever for them to get him measured for the alterations as it would appear that he suddenly has one leg longer than the other!! That's never happened before. They had 2 assistants checking each other and tried several different pairs of trousers in case they were made wrong! It was really quite funny.
He got 5 new shirts and a couple of ties and although he wasn't looking for shoes, I happened to spot a very nice pair of black leather lace ups in Marks reduced from £59.99 to £29.oo. They are very smart and ideal for school and a size 6! When we reached the till, we were only charged £9.00!!!! Bargain, they had been reduced further.
We had lunch in Kentucky Fried Chicken which I really enjoy and got a couple of other bits and pieces. I got myself some new make up and a book. When we went to go back to the car, Simon discovered that he had lost the parking ticket!! This meant going back to John Lewis which he claimed was the only place he could have lost it as it was the only place he paid cash.......it was apparently in that pocket!
Of course it was no where to be seen. We went back to the car to see if it was there.......no! We already knew that if you lose your ticket then they charge you for the whole day. I was thoroughly annoyed! The shoes we got for a bargain were no longer such a bargain if we were going to have to pay out for a days parking. This is a city centre car park, it costs a fortune! We should only have been paying £1.10.
I sat in the car while Simon went to find out where he had to go. He did take another ticket with him that showed that we had been parked in Asda until 2 hours before. In the event he was really lucky, the lady told him that she should charge him for the whole day but they had a ticket that had been handed in and the charge on that was only £1.60, so she let him have that.
We worked out afterwards that maybe it was ours anyway, as by that time we had been in that car park for just over 2 hours and that would have been the charge. All's well that ends well!
Today we have been catching up on house work again. I have done lots of washing and ironing and Simon did all th hoovering and a bit of gardening. He has gone to Northampton now with Sam to collect a car. He is going to bring back a Chinese take away, so no cooking! I have done a couple of book reviews and had a nice long bath.
Tomorrow, Simon is off to Dorset with Coralie, Evan and Saskia. Sam, Lisa and Ellie will be going in their own car. They are away until Sunday. Simon's family have this big get together every 2 years, always at the same place in Dorset. A place called Monketon Wilde. I have to stay home to look after the dogs as they don't take dogs.
The story is a little more complicated than that. When they first sarted doing this, they knew we had to take the dogs with us, but still chose a place where dogs can't go! That first year, I suggested that we go and camp near by, but that suggestion wasn't acceptable to certain parties! Consequently, I always stay at home.
I don't want to go as it is really not my scene and we have never got on, Simon's family and I (Another long story!!) However, I do always feel excluded as all my own family are going. They don't always. Actually, Verity isn't going and Josh is still in Crete so he can't go. I just think that if the suggestion of camping had been accepted the first year then it could have worked. Simon could have seen them and I could have done my own thing. I feel as if it was done deliberately as they knew we had the dogs to consider. Still, what do I know!
I am not happy about it at all, especially this year as I will be totally on my own. Other years there has always been one or other of the children around. I am fine during the day, but hate being in the house at night on my own. It very rarely happens. I end up more or less staying up the whole night. I can't turn the light off! I AM NOT HAPPY!!! I think I had better not say any more, or I will use bad words about certain people!!
Actually, it's time to go as Simon has just phoned to say he is on his way with the Chinese! I will probably be around a bit more the next few days as blogging is a good activity for the middle of the night when you're scared and can't sleep!!!
