Entry for 08 August 2007 (copy)

More changes today. I wasn't completely happy with the back ground so I have changed it again! Still not sure about it, so may change again in the next few days!! Today has been a slow day. We got up quite late and just pottered really. I did sit in the garden for a short while, but it wasn't as warm today. I did some washing and ironing as usual and Simon and I cleaned out the cupboard where the dogs food and bits and pieces are kept. That took quite a while. The other thing today was that we had a man come to give us a quote for repairing the guttering at the front of our house. I should explain further about this ...... There is a large hole in the guttering through which the rain absolutely cascades like a waterfall. It has been like this for a couple of years and has ruined the woodwork on the cladding below. Simon replaced that last year. With all the recent heavy rain the problem has become worse and we are worried that the brick work takes ages to dry, so we really need to do something. We had a quote last year from the plumbers who did our bath room, it was for £700 which we thought was way to much. Yesterday we had a man come from a company called Everest. You will not believe how much the quote was! Wait for it ...... £5190, yes that really does say five thousand, one hundred and ninety pounds. BRITISH POUNDS!!!! I have this in writing. I don't know how many customers Everest get, but they must be very rich ones. We worked out that means the guttering is worth about 2 and a half percent of the total value of our house!!! It's unbelievable. Anyway, we had another man come today who quoted us £460, which although that still sounds a lot to me, is the cheapest so far. We have another couple of people who are going to give us quotes so we will see what happens. I should say at this point that we live in a 3 storey house so it is very high up and not possible to do by climbing a ladder, or Simon would do it himself. Well that's enough waffle for now, I am going to make some coffee.
