Entry for 16 August 2007 (copy)

I have been having a couple of low key days. Yesterday was taken up with all the normal chores and then a visit to the library in the afternoon. I wanted to get a couple of books to take on holiday with me. I will probably still purchase something at the airport, but I can get through quite a few books whilst lounging on a sun bed!
I was looking for a book called "Vanish" by Tess Gerritsen. I have never read anything by her; but it is the book that I have chosen for our book this month in our reading group "The Purple Wearers". It was my turn to choose and I saw an advert for this book whilst standing on the station in Stevenage a few weeks back. It's some kind of murder mystery, which isn't usually my kind of thing but it sounded good.
They didn't have it in the library, but I did find another one by her called "Body Double", so I have got that to try. Maybe I will get the other one at the airport. I also got "Shopaholic and baby" by Sophie Kinsella, plus a book on how to avoid Alzheimer's in later life, and a book on how to look ten years younger! LOL.
For reading before I go, I got a Dummies guide to Power Point as that is one application that I am not brilliant with; And a really cool book called "Save cash and Save the planet" I have been reading that today.
This morning was again taken up with normal chores, made easier by Simon doing the hoovering. I came over a bit funny just before lunch time. All dizzy and sick feeling. I went and laid down for a while as I really thought I was going to be sick, but it seems to have passed.
Simon left at half past one to go and play in his barn. He will be back at 7pm, but says that he will do dinner so I don't have to worry. I have been laying down reading my book. It has some fantastic ideas. especially for cleaning. It explains how toxic all the chemicals we use in our homes actually are. Makes you think. It has lots of good ideas for cleaning with lemon juice and vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.
I went down stairs earlier to make myself some coffee. While I was waiting for the kettle to boil (using only enough water for one cup as it suggests in my book!) I decided to throw some vinegar into the downstairs toilet. Apparently either vinegar or lemon juice are good for cleaning toilets. OK, so I need to leave it a while before scrubbing.
Just now, I noticed a strange smell ........... LOL, on investigation, I discovered half the house stinks of vinegar! Still, I can counteract that by sprinkling some Lavender essential oil about the place. Obviously these natural cleaning methods take a while to get used to. It's a good book though, with millions of ides so I am going to give them a go.
I am also trying to find a web site which sells "Washing balls". I read about them a while back in a magazine. They are special balls which you put into your washing machine instead of powder and some how or other (I can't quite remember) they get the washing clean. I think it's something to do with oxygen. Anyway, they are kind to the environment and cheap as they last 1000 washes. I'll let you know when I find them.
Talking of washing, I am glad everyone enjoyed the joke yesterday about Tide. I was interested to hear that it is still on sale in America and is in fact very popular. I wonder what happened to it here?
Right, my coffee is finished now so I am going to put on another load of washing. I really will try and get round to visiting my friends pages later. I am sorry that I have been so lax. All of my friends are brilliant, but I need to say a special thank you to Connie and Chrissi, both of whom always visit me and leave lovely comments and send helpful messages as well. They seem to understand where I am coming from. Promise I will catch up with you tonight!
