Entry for 28 April 2008

I cannot believe that for the first time Multiply has lost one of my blogs!  I got it all typed out, pressed preview and spell check and POOF...........GONE.... never to be retrieved.  I am thoroughly pi***d off!  Sorry, but I am.  It's way too reminiscent of Yahoo for my liking.  I am going to have to do all blogs in Word again and copy and paste.  Such a waste of time.  Now I'll have to try and remember it so I can type it all out again.
Here we go:
No blogs since Friday, it must have been a very busy weekend!  Today is day 6 of the "No diet, diet".  I manged to do the 15 minute walk on Saturday.  Sundays task was to get up one hour earlier and I am afraid that I failed....it was Sunday for goodness sake!  Todays task is to write a list of all the things that I want to achieve by this time next year.  I haven't done that yet but I will do it when I have finished blogging.  I am going to get up one hour earlier tomorrow too, so that I will be back on track.
On Saturday Simon had to go to an exams meeting in Coventry so he was away all day. I did a few jobs early in the morning and then was tempted by the sun!  The weather here in Peterborough was absolutely gorgeous, so I ended up sitting out in my garden reading a book!  It was 69% which is fantastic for the time of year.
The book was "Whitethorn Woods" by Maeve Binchy.  I have read a few of her books and they are always lovely easy reads.  This one is set in Ireland in a small town called Rossmore.  The town has a shrine to St Ann which is about to be demolished by a new road.  Each chapter of the book tells the story of different residents and they all come together at the end.  It was very good.  I really enjoyed laying out on my sun bed reading all  day! I even topped up my tan!
Yes, I do know that it is not the "done" thing nowadays but, I LIKE IT!  And....yes, Coralie, I will remember to apply my sun tan lotion next time!  Who is the Mummy???  Coralie actually came over for a short while late Saturday afternoon and I went to the supermarket with her.
On Saturday evening Simon and I went out for dinner at the Paul Pry, which is a pub with a restaurant where Saskia works a few shifts either waitressing or in the kitchens, preparing the desserts. She did ours so we got extra cream!  It's a nice place with a good menu and reasonable prices.
I had tomato and mozzarella with basil oil and balsamic vinegar dressing to start which was good.  For dinner I had yellow fin sole stuffed with haddock and spinach which is delicious.  I have had it before and it was the reason we decided to go to the Paul Pry.  For dessert Simon and I shared profiteroles (with extra cream). It was a lovely meal and we had a quick chat with Saskia before we left.
On Sunday I woke up with a headache so Simon decided to come up to Stevenage with me so that I wouldn't have to drive. We picked Dad up and took him to the hospital.  Simon and I then went to a local garden centre for a short while so that I didn't have to stay with mum for quite so long.  My Dad was staying for 3 hours which is just way too long, especially if you have a headache!
We dropped Dad at home and drove straight back here where we had a quick cup of coffee before heading out again to visit my friend Eddy in hospital.  He was taken in on Saturday with a very badly broken ankle.  They had to operate on Sunday to put in a metal plate and pins to hold it all together.
He was watching the Chelsea versus Manchester United football game at the pub with some friends, Chelsea scored and Eddy did a back flip off a table, landed awkwardly with his ankle bone sticking out at a  very funny angle!  Quite why he decided to do it, I don't know!  He doesn't even support Chelsea, he's a Liverpool fan!  I am told that he wasn't drunk!!
I'm also told that his friends videoed it on their mobiles and it is now on You Tube!  Great friends.  Personally I think that he did it deliberately to get out of work!  He is a care taker at the Voyager school and with the summer exam season just beginning they have a lot of extra work setting up halls and the like.  I doubt if he will be back at school this term.
Talking of school and exams..... I talked to Simon about if I should continue with the invigilating or not. He has been telling me for ages to give it up , so I knew what he would say.  Anyway, after much deliberation I decided that I really have had enough and it was time to stop.  I emailed the exams officer on Sunday night to let her know that I wouldn't be coming back. I am still waiting for a reply, which says everything really!
It's quite a relief to be honest as I was getting really stressed out with all the various problems.  I can really see why Simon was so keen to leave too. The children are just dreadful and nothing is being done.  Anyway, I am now officially a non working person, for a while at least.  Hopefully the weather will be good and I can sit in the garden and read!!
I have applied for 12 hours a week at a new shop that is opening here in Bretton at our local centrer.  The shop is Peacocks which sells mainly clothes for the cheaper end of the market.  You know the kind of thing, fashionable items not made to last forever.  I have  a few things from there and they are ok.  The shop is due to open in June and is being fitted out at the moment so I will have to wait and see what happens.  It would be quite a convenient little job as it is only 5 minutes walk.
In the mean time I shall be a lady of leisure!  I won't be bored that's for sure as I have lots of hobbies which have been neglected recently.  I never really did like the working lark as it takes up too much valuable time!!  The more exams I did the less time I had!
I shall spend the rest of this week catching up on jobs and then have some "Me" time.  The following week will be a busy one in the lead up to Coralie's wedding. We have several appointments to "glam" us up!  I am having my highlights done and my hair cut on the Thursday and then Coralie and I are both having nails and eyebrows etc.. done on Friday.  On the Saturday morning I am having my hair blow dried first thing.
Wednesday of that week is also my little granddaughter Ellie's first birthday and they are doing a birthday tea for her.  I can't believe that she is already nearly one and will soon be joined by a little cousin!
Today I have been catching up on  a few jobs and then I went on the bus to see Ed at the hospital this afternoon.  He has been transferred from the district hospital to the Edith Cavell which is near us in Bretton.
I made the mistake of leaving my washing on the line as it was lovely and sunny when I left.  Of course while I was out it started to pour with rain and the washing ended up in the tumble drier.  I always think it comes out softer than on the line anyway, but I do try and hang it out in the summer weather permitting.  You know, do my bit to save electricity. The rest of the year it goes straight from the washing machine to the tumbler!  Funny isn't it how our Mums always swore that line drying was best.
Right, I think that is about what I had written before Multiply went and lost it.  More or less anyway!  Time to try and post it again!!
