I know the New year has passed but I couldn't resist that picture. I am having a relatively quiet day here. We were up early as Simon had to get Alfie to the Vet for 8am. I unfortunately woke up with a horrid sore throat and a very sniffly nose. I have taken some Lem Sip Max and vitamin C and echinecea. I am hoping to stop it before it fully takes hold. I still feel very lethargic and grotty.
I did all the ironing this morning but the children did the hoovering and I have left it at that. We collected Alfie at about half past ten and he is still quite wobbly. I don't think I had said, but when he went for his annal injections just before Christmas we got the Vet to check out a lump that he has on his chest.
To cut a long story short the Vet thinks it is some kind of tumour and we had to take him today for a biopsy. I am so worried about him. The lump doesn't bother him at all but that doesn't mean anything. The Vet said that the cells look better than he had expected but we have to wait 5-6 days for the results and then we will know what is going on with him.
My poor baby. He should have stayed at the Vets until lunch time but they said that as soon as he came round from the anaesthetic he started howling at the top of his lungs! I think they got us to collect him, early as he was upsetting the other doggies!
I laid down with him for a while when we got him home. He seems a bit more steady now. I have just done a half hour work out on the Wii Fit. It is quite fun and very tiring. Probably not the best idea when you don't feel great. I had played some games over Christmas but started the Wii Fit properly yesterday. I was rather disconcerted to see that it reckons that I have gained 2lbs since yesterday! How did that happen?
I am going to have a fairly quiet evening in the hope that I can get rid of this cold. I shall have another Lem Sip and read my new magazine and do some sewing....hopefully. I say hopefully as I currently have my right wrist all strapped up.
I have very weak wrists due to several breaks back in my late teens. They were both badly broken on several occasions. The left one twice and the right one 3 times! I must have had a real clumsy few years! They have both been operated on the same number of times and they do play up occasionally. Some years back my GP said that I would probably need further operations on the tendons, but they haven't been too bad since.
What caused the current trouble was making a dog coat for Loulou! She always shivers when she is in her basket in the kitchen at night. We leave the heating on and she has a blanket but she still seems cold so we decided that a coat would be a good idea as she wouldn't kick it off in the night like a blanket. We priced them up and they are very expensive in large dog sizes..... about £40.
We decided that there was no reason why I couldn't make one as we have plenty of old blankets. We found the pattern for the rough shape on the internet. Simon drew it out and sized it up on some old Christmas wrapping paper, then he cut it out of an old towel so that we could try it and make sure it was right. It was perfect, so much so, that when he cut out the 2 blanket pieces I decided to put the towelling one in between to make it extra thick.
It was a nightmare to sew through 3 layers of blanket and towelling and I had to do it sat on the floor to keep it all flat. I don't have a sewing machine so it was all done by hand. What really played my wrist up though was sewing on 4 lots of velcro for fastening. It is really hard to sew velcro onto blanket, I DO NOT recommend it! I am pleased with the finished result and Loulou seemed to really like wearing it last night, but my poor wrist is really painful. Hopefully I will still be able to do some embroidery.
Right now I am going to go and get myself that Lem Sip and then sit and read my new Good Food magazine. Saskia got me a subscription for Christmas and the first one came this morning. Hopefully there will be inspiration in there for next weeks meals. Oh and I will post some photos of Loulou in her coat either later or tomorrow.
