Gordon Brown (copy)

Yesterday saw the end of an era here in the UK. Tony Blair, head of the Labour party finally stepped down as Prime Minister. He had been in the role for 10 (long) years. I think he held on to it for so long through sheer luck, rather than judgement! Personally I could never stand the man and his swarmy grin, which sometimes verged on a leer, made me want to slap him.
There were various occasions in his career where he only manged to hang on by the skin of his teeth. I don't believe that he did much good for our country and am glad to see him finally go. I think he totally mislead all of us over the Iraq situation and told blatant lies. His successor is Gordon Brown the former Chancellor. I don't know too much about him yet, so I will reserve judgement.
Hopefully he may do something about the appalling state of education in this country. We have hard working very dedicated teachers who over the years have been totally demoralised by the changes wrought by this government. Does anyone else remember Mr Blair's pledge at the beginning of his term ...... Education, Education, Education! One of many pledges which never saw fruition.
The new government is as follows:
NEW CABINET
Prime minister: Gordon Brown
Chancellor: Alistair Darling
Foreign Secretary: David Miliband
Home Secretary: Jacqui Smith
Health: Alan Johnson
Schools and children: Ed Balls

Defence Des Browne
Int Development: Douglas Alexander
Work and Pensions: Peter Hain
Northern Ireland: To be confirmed
Cabinet office minister: Ed Miliband
Culture: James Purnell
Transport: Ruth Kelly
Lords leader: To be confirmed
Environment: Hilary Benn
Chief Whip: Geoff Hoon

Housing: Yvette Cooper
Before entering 10 Downing Street on Wednesday, the new Prime Minister said: "I will try my utmost. This is my promise to all of the people of Britain. And now let the work of change begin."
After stepping down as prime minister, Mr Blair also quit as MP for Sedgefield to become a Middle East peace envoy on behalf of the EU, US, UN and Russia.
I shall wait with interest to see what this new leader comes up with. But, I for one am glad to see the back of Tony Blair.
