Where have I been all week? That is the question that lots of you are asking me. Thanks for all your concerns, but I haven’t been ill or away, I have just been busy. I haven’t found either the time or the enthusiasm for a blog since last Monday. That is a whole week. Sorry!
I can’t even really remember exactly what has taken up so much of my time. Loads and loads of house work as always. Lots of cooking using my new Chef machine. Coralie has been round a few times and we have made a start on our snowman, which we are making out of paper maiche on a chicken wire frame.....more later.
I had Ellie all day on Thursday and we went into town on the bus for a while to get a few more Christmas presents. I am all done now except for a few little extras that I may or may not buy. I do also have to finish a few things that I am working on. Ellie was really good as always and she loved the bus. She sat on my lap and made comments about what she could see through the window. She also waved her little hand and said “Bye” to everyone that got off! So sweet.
On Saturday Simon and I went up to Stevenage to see my Mum and Dad. It wasn’t a bad trip, both of them were ok and my Mum seemed quite good; she is eating a little more recently. Once we left there we popped into Stevenage town centre to go to Primark, the cheap shop! I got some fleecy pyjamas from there a while back and I wanted some more. They are brilliant for wearing late at night when I am sitting at my computer and it is feeling chilly.
We also paid a visit to Hobby Craft. I only found out recently that there was one in Stevenage. Coralie and I have always gone to Northampton thinking it was our nearest one! Wait until Coralie finds out there is a nice big one in Stevenage. Mind you, I think John may have banned her from going there!
I didn’t get much as we didn’t really browse. It’s not Simon’s thing! I did get some crepe paper in various colours which I need for my snowman. The snowman is something that I remember from my childhood. My aunt and uncle always had a snowman that had a present inside it for everyone. This is going to be one of our new family traditions to replace stockings which we are no longer going to do.
I think the original “Fred” the snowman was made out of card board but ours is being done in paper maiche. Coralie and I started it on Friday afternoon. We are using chicken wire moulded into the shape of a body and a separate head. The head will lift off to allow access to the inside for the presents.

Me having fun!
It's a messy business
The head is starting to look good! Really!!
As we weren’t very well prepared we ended up using old magazines and flour and water glue. Simon now tells me that flour and water is likely to rot eventually! Great, we want him to last for years. I have got some old newspaper now from my Dad and some wall paper paste. I think it will be ok as he still needs lots of layers. The first layer dried out ok (I put him in the airing cupboard over night!) I had intended to do some more yesterday but it wasn’t possible due to an unexpected, (unexpected as far as I knew!) visitor.
Simons brother is in the UK for a week or so (he is from Canada). I wasn’t aware that he was going to be arriving here yesterday at lunch time, so I had to rush around frantically in the morning as soon as I was up, to get everything ship shape.
Since I spend most of my life doing house work I really hate anyone visiting when it is messy. As we were out all day Saturday nothing was done. Of course I rushed around like a mad thing while Simon prepared some food and then his brother phoned to say he hadn’t even left yet and would be several hours. Also he was going to meet Simon at his barn to see the truck, so I could have taken my time over my jobs! Great!
Once I had finished I didn’t feel that I could make a mess with paper maiche so it just got left for today. It’s a shame as I really wanted to get a layer on each day, but it is very messy. Hopefully I will have time today as it is my long day. Simon will be at his welding course at the college after he finishes school.
Does anyone else have a problem with their family not communicating things to them? It is a perpetual problem here! Seems that some people think that I can’t pass on phone messages either! I like arrangements to be made in consultation so I know what is happening. I hate things arranged behind my back. I also hate it when people don’t turn up when they are supposed to. Lateness, without a very good reason, is just downright bad manners and rudeness.
I have a solution though, for the people who think I am not capable of passing a phone message to my husband............... Next time I shall just say, “No sorry you’ll have to phone his mobile, I can’t pass on messages” So there!
This morning I am sort of working my half hour system. I have already done my kitchen and bathroom and got a load of washing in the machine. I hope to get plenty of me time so that I can join in with this week’s Mono Monday. I don’t have too much more house work to get done as I was fairly up to date yesterday.
I need to do a bit of ironing later and maybe make some cakes. I have my shopping being delivered from Tesco this afternoon so that will take a while to get it all put away. Right now I am going to go and mix up some wall paper paste and add another layer to my snowman.
