Right, I know it is Tuesday evening but it is time for Mondays make do or mend. It has been another week where I haven’t got as much done as I would have liked. The kindle pouch is now finished except for the button loop. My lap top bag is more or less done except for sewing on the strap and the poppers. I have however managed to finish off the original lap top bag that I tried to make on my own and it doesn’t look too bad really. Not as professional as the one that I have been making with Denise’s help. I am sure it will come in handy.
I did make this tote bag this week out of an old pillow case. It’s good for stuffing in a handbag for shopping.
I have also more or less completed the 3 sock monkeys that I began last week. One of the blue ones still need eyes and the red one is going to get a scarf if I can recall how to knit! LOL. I can do plain and purl stitch but never really made anything except a matinee jacket and a bonnet for Saskia.
My “homework” this week from Denise was to try and get my skirt pattern pieces cut out and pinned to the fabric. She will check that I have got it right before I actually cut it out! When I opened up the packet and read the instructions (written in double Dutch, I might add) I discovered not only does the skirt need a zip (I thought I had checked that it didn’t) but it also needs white muslin as it is lined! I chose a skirt as my first proper project because I thought it would be easy! Seems I have chosen the wrong skirt!
Any way it was a game and a half just to cut out the pattern pieces as the tissue paper is so flimsy. There were only 2 bits to cut out but I was doing it on the floor in Saskias old bedroom and oh my goodness....... I got a hot flush! Fiddly stupid things.
I went down to the kitchen table to pin the pieces to the fabric and I thought I was so careful to do it right but when I got Simon to look at it he saw that 1 of the bits was upside down! Had to re pin it! I just hope that Denise will say it is correct and that I can at least get it cut out. My sister said that maybe it won’t need lining either as it is just a cotton summer skirt. I am going to ask Denise before I buy the muslin.
I don’t know...I think it could be winter again before I get this done. It is also quiet expensive and I could have got a couple of cheap cotton skirts for the price this one is going to end up costing. Then again the whole point is to learn how to sew properly so it is worthwhile and fun...mostly!
