Well as you all know we had our sewing session last Monday with Denise and the skirt is finished!!! Yee ha. Here I am modeling it for you. Please note the matching decoration on the T shirt. I figured that this skirt could only really be worn with white and that is a bit boring so having some fabric left I decided to make a flower. Ok, yeah I can hear what you are thinking..........funny looking flower!
Ignore disgustingly untidy room in background please! The photos had to be taken in the mirror so they are not good but at least you can see it is finished. I never did get round to asking Simon to take a photo for me.
I did look up on the interweb how to do it and this twisted one came up which looked good when they did it. Although it isn't very flower like I do think it adds something. I will not tell you what Simon said he thinks it adds. I shall try a proper floppy type flower next. You know the kind I mean.
I am pleased to report that my lap top bag is also finally finished and in use. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. I also finished off my earlier attempt and that is not too bad either.
On Tuesday I spent ages cutting out the pattern pieces and fabric for my dress. It's quite amazing how big those fragile tissue paper patterns are. It is difficult to hold them open and try to see which bits you need to cut out. It is not helped by having 2 inquisitive doggies who want to know what's going on!
Once the patterns bits were cut out I pinned them to the fabric very carefully double checking everything and then........I cut them out! I even remembered those notch things. They are really hard to cut those little triangles. Must ask Denise if it is critical what size they are. I did all the tailors tacks and it is now ready for the sewing part to begin.
Tuesday was a busy day as I also did lots of baking for Simon. He wanted cakes for his Tuesday night exam class children and he wanted something else for a meeting on Wednesday. It's a wonder those teachers aren't as fat as pigs the amount of cake they eat!
I made an ordinary tray bake cake for the teachers with chocolate orange icing. For the children I tried a new recipe for Viennese custard whirls. They turned out ok although not quite as melt in the mouth as I would have liked. Apparently the kids scoffed them down! There was only one left to take a photo of. So I'll also show you the recipe photo. I know I should have taken a photo before they went to school but the batteries had died on my camera.
While I was in cooking mode I tried out a new recipe for dinner too, Quick Thai green curry. I am not a curry fan but I knew this would be quite mild as there is lots of coconut milk. Simon loved it. I must get back into trying out a new recipe each week. The curry recipe is in my recipe section.
On Wednesday I cut out the flags from the Thomas tank fabric and began the sewing. This bunting is for Evans bedroom and I shall use it as part of his birthday present. The triangles are all double sided and it is a real pain to turn them through the right way and try to get right into the point. I am very pleased with how they have worked out. Evan is going to love them. They are for one wall in his room. I just have to sew them to the bias binding now.
Friday is my day where I try not to do too much house work except the essential stuff. I have fun doing other stuff. Having finally got Ellies measurements I got started on cutting out all the little pattern pieces and fabric for her dress.
How can one dress for one small girl need so many different pattern bits? 10 in total! This may be harder than I thought!
I got the other 4 patterns this week too. A dress for Ellie and it is this one that I am starting on, not the one I showed you last week.
A skirt pattern for me. Another dress pattern for me and another bag pattern. I am really pleased with these and so happy to have got them half price.
I am collecting tin cans to try and make a tin man for the allotment. I think that idea came from Sue. I don't actually know how to make a tin man but I like the idea. It's going to take a while though as I don't get many tins! We don't often eat anything from a tin.
Over the weekend I have got part of Ellies dress sewn up. I have done the bodice and the skirt. Next step is to sew the 2 bits together which I suspect could possibly prove more difficult that the stuff I have done so far!
Looky what I have done today...........................
I am so pleased with myself. I have done the gathering and managed to attach top to bottom!!!!! Just facings, zip, sleeves and ribbon to go! Hopefully I may be able to show you it finished next week!!!!!
