I have had a pleasant couple of days. My leg seems to be fine now which is good. Yesterday we kind of pottered around in the morning and I did a few jobs. I have so much to do to get myself anywhere near back to normal. Simon has 1 more week of school holiday left and I am beginning to think that I may as well give up until after he goes back. I know once I am back in my ordinary routine things will return to normal around here.
We went to Coralies house for an hour or so to look after the boys while she went into work to be photographed for a new ID badge. She goes back to work on the 5th of September. She is only going back part time. She will be doing 1 nightshift a week and I will look after the boys the following day while she sleeps.
When they move into their new house I will probably go there to look after the boys and she will come to my house to sleep. That may seem a funny arrangement but it will mean that my dogs don’t have to be shut in all day and I won’t have a messy house when the boys go home! Coralie and Johns new house is only about 1 mile from ours. Maybe a 10 minute walk although when my children were at primary school I could do that walk in about 6 minutes if I was really running late!
They are due to exchange contracts any day now. It should have happened yesterday but.........! It is a lovely, brand new, 3 bedroom house and the first one of their own. They are currently renting. It is all very exciting for them and it will be nice that we don’t need to drive to see each other. They aren’t far from us now; maybe 4 miles.
After looking after the boys we went to the shopping centre at Hampton as I had some vouchers for Tesco and wanted to check out the clothes as the vouchers expired soon. I got 3 pairs of leggings in black, navy and grey. A long grey cardigan and some underwear which I need to take back as it is too big. I’ll probably do that on Monday. Once we got home we spent the rest of the day pottering and I spent time on here! We had an early night as we had decided to go to the auction today which means being up early.
So today.................. we left the house at 8am and drove to Wisbech for the auction. We weren’t looking for anything in particular we just enjoy going. We did actually bid on 3 things but didn’t get any of them. The first thing was a brand new single bed. We have been intending to replace one of our doubles with a single for ages. It will be better for the little ones when they stay over. We set our limit at £30 and the bed went for £40. Forty pounds is actually very reasonable and another time we may have gone higher but cash flow is not what it was since the wedding!
The second item was a double bed! It was a really nice wooden bedstead with a mattress. We would have got rid of the mattress as we have our memory foam one; we just wanted the lovely wooden bed frame. We decided to bid up to £40 for that and it went for £45. We are really good at not going over what we have decided upon.
The third item was a gorgeous, huge, dolls house which seemed to be brand new. It was the largest one I have ever seen. We thought it would make a great present for Ellie at Christmas. We decided on a bid of £20. The bidding began at £100! No takers so it dropped to £80, then £50. Still no takers! Then he said ok someone start us off at £20... Another man bid £20... I was furiously nudging Simon who seemed to have gone to sleep! He was also stuffing his face with a bacon roll! Despite my nudging he was too slow and the hammer came down. The other man got it for £20! I was not pleased!
I bet you are all thinking why didn’t she just bid herself? Well.... I could have done but I am a coward! I am too scared of somehow getting it wrong and finding out that I have somehow managed to bid an extortionate sum of money on something I don’t even want!
We also went through to the flower, fruit and veg auction which is next door. We bid on a box of 250 daffodil bulbs which we got for £10.50. A real bargain. The Thompson and Morgan catalogue has them for £14.95 for 50 bulbs! They are for our front garden.
After the auction it was still quite early so we had a little drive around some of the villages and then went to a caravan and motor home show room. There was a caravan up for auction and that had got us talking. It was already sold when we got there so we don’t know what it sold for but it prompted the visit to the show room. We had a lovely time checking out all the lovely vans. Some of them are really luxurious if that word can be applied to a caravan or motor home! LOL!
We are quite interested and think that we will try to hire one for our next holiday to see if it is something that we would enjoy doing. Don’t know when the next holiday will be though after the saga of organising dog sitters this time!
We came home from there and had a quick lunch and then set off for the allotment to get a couple of hours in before the rain. Simon finished weeding in among the potatoes but didn’t dig any more up at the moment. We need to figure out how we are going to store them. I picked another few pounds of raspberries which I have frozen. I weeded the raised beds and picked goodness knows how many pounds of runner beans! We also came home with some green peppers and some carrots so we were really happy.
The carrots have done much better than last year but are still not fantastic. The germination rate seems low and then we didn’t thin them out enough either. Still we have got some so that is good and there are more to come. We are going to plant an autumn variety in one of the raised beds. We have been told to use either Nantes or Autumn Kings. We want to get them in on Monday.
Simon has been out at his barn tonight preparing for a car show tomorrow. I have sat and prepared all the runner beans, blanched them all and they are currently waiting to be bagged up ready for the freezer. It’s 10.30pm now and I could do without it really but they need to be frozen tonight. Simon should be in soon so I shall rope him in to help!
So there you have it that was a run down on the last 2 days! As I said Simon will be out tomorrow so I may just get around to telling you about our holiday and the wedding. On the other hand the weather forecast is for rain so he may possibly not go if it is too bad. We shall see. Have a great weekend everyone.
