Stamford, Lincolnshire (copy)

Just got in and am having a cup of coffee before thinking about dinner.  I have been to Stamford this afternoon with Coralie.  We didn't do a lot, just had a slow browse around the shops.  I bought a calendar for next year and a present for Verity.  ( I did type in what I had bought then realised that's a bit silly as she regularly reads my Blog!)  Must be careful of that!
Stamford is just off the A1 north of Peterborough.  It is a really pleasant old market town. Many of the buildings are constructed from old Lincolnshire limestone, hence the town's distinguished appearance and popularity with tourists and movie directors.
Although it is a small town it boasts 11 churches, 30 pubs, 20 restaurants and over 10 quality hotels and guest houses. Most of the pubs serve Real Ale and are conveniently located within walking distance of the town centre.  Strangly it also has a very large number of charity shops.  In fact, I have never seen so many in one small area!  It has quite a number of small speciality shops too, plus lots of antiques.  Ideal for just browsing.
It also has a very nice river side setting called the Meadows.
