Hope we are all having a good day. It is a very pleasant day here in Peterborough. Very mild and no wind. Anyway, this is a bit of an update on my efforts to be "greener" and to recycle more.
I have purchased 2 reusable plastic carrier bags from Tesco's and one very strong, if small, foldable, material bag from Sainsburys. Very good, I can hear you say! I have even got them in my handbag (where they take up loads of space) so that they are always with me. Only problem is, remembering to get them out and use them!! I have twice come home with more plastic bags because I have forgotten! Obviously , must try harder with this. I did get a Tesco club card point though the other day when I did remember!
My next thing is to try and be more careful with water. Coralie pointed out the other day that I always fill my kettle up and yet I am only making one cup of coffee. This is very wasteful, so she tells me. Not so much of water, but of the electricty involved in boiling it.
Now, the reason I fill it right up is becasue it then lasts me all day. I am guilty of drinking about 8 cups of coffee a day, so my logic has always been that if I fill the kettle in the morning it will save me having to fill it again all day. This saves wear and tear on my arms!! I did explain to Coralie but she says actually the strain of having to lift such a heavy kettle is probably worse for my arms.
I should probably explain here that I am not actually a really lazy person who can't be A***d to fill the kettle! I have very weak wrists due to operations that I had on them years ago as a teenager after breaking them both several times. I do conceed though that Coralie has a valid point and boiling up all that water is wasting energy and costing me money. I am going to try and remember to only boil one cup at a time from now on.
I am also guilty of wasting water when I brush my teeth. Yes, I am afraid I am one of those people who have the tap running the whole time. I suppose that I should try to curb this bad habit too. It's going to be difficult though because it just doesn't seem to be right unless the tap is running. I am sure that my teeth don't feel as clean when I have the tap switched off!!
All in all this being "greener" lark is harder than I thought. I must try harder. I could try writng 100 lines like they used to make us do at school but on the other hand that would be wasting paper!
