Today’s Tuesday thirteen (on Wednesday) is thirteen things beginning with the letter A, that have some relevance or meaning for me.
1. Albert Arthur, more commonly known to most as Alf; and known to me as Dad. One of the most special people in my life and someone who has taught me so much especially over the last few years. His love and unending patience for my Mum is awe inspiring.
2. Alfie, my youngest Dalmatian and a most faithful companion.
3. Aunties. On my maternal side there is June, Glad and Joan. Aunt Joan passed away a couple of weeks ago, I didn't know her as well as she was not close to my Mum. Aunt June and Aunt Glad both hold special memories for me and have special places in my heart. Aunt Glad (Wendy's Mum) now sadly has Alzheimer’s and is in a home. She and my Uncle Jack were very good to me when I was younger and I learnt a lot from observing their relationship. Sadly, Uncle Jack passed away many years ago. Aunt June has been a tower of strength over the last five years and I wonder how we would have managed without her.
On my paternal side, I have another 3, Ida, Winnie and Jean. We didn’t see them quite as much when I was younger but I love them all and they have been a great support for Dad the last couple of years.
4. Alzheimer’s. This has come into my life with a vengeance over the last few years and has devastated the entire family with its cruelty. It takes people away and it has taken 2 of my most precious family members.
5. America. A place that I have visited 4 times. Before we were married Simon and I travelled right across from east to west and we had such a wonderful time. We visited again for our 20th wedding anniversary. Viva America!
6. August. My favourite month, because it’s usually hot and sunny. (I live in hope!)
7. Arrogant……..… I am sometimes arrogant.
8. Awkward……. I am also sometimes awkward and unsure. Simon will probably tell you that I’m always awkward!
9. Austin. My Dads very first car was an Austin A35. It was a white one and very tiny. I remember going on holiday in it one year, probably the first year we had it. We drove to Devon in it. A journey, which in those days took about 8 hours. Mum and Dad were in the front and Julie and I were in the back, seated either side of my Dads Mum, who was a very large lady.It wasn’t a comfy drive!!
10. Amethyst. I love crystals and have a piece of amethyst which I have under my pillow as it is said to help insomnia. I can’t say that it has worked but I still like it as it is very pretty.
11. April. We have 6 birthdays in April, starting with Verity on the 14th. Followed by, John, Ben, Charlotte, Raz and my Dads brother Uncle Derek.
12. Ali. My friend who lives in New Zealand. We were pen friends years ago and both Osmond’s fans.
13. Angels. I believe in Angels.
