It’s been a good day. My leg has been fine. I have removed the compression bandages and all the swelling has gone. It looks more or less normal apart from a motley area behind my knee where there is also what appears to be a blood blister. It is very itchy on and off but otherwise ok.
Simon was in school this morning so I did piles of washing and ironing. I really needed to catch up. There was still stuff from our holiday waiting to be done! Obviously last week was busy.
Simon got home at lunch time and he was happy as most of his students had done well except for the few that are just wasters anyway. He was the only one in his department to have students gaining “A” grades and the new A* so he was chuffed about that too. The GCSE results will be out on Tuesday so hopefully those students will do well too.
After lunch we decided that we would have a drive out as the weather was reasonably fine and it wasn’t raining. (It is pouring down now!) I had recently picked up various leaflets of places to go and we had a look through those and decided to go to Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue which is owned by the forestry commission. It was free which was the deciding factor!
It is in a small village called Clipsham which is in our neighbouring county of Rutland. All we knew from the leaflet was that it is an avenue of over 150 yew trees cut into various shapes. It has been there for over 200 years and was originally the main driveway leading to Clipsham house.
We took a leisurely drive to get there as we like driving through all the villages. When we got there we were amazed. It is such a very strange place and almost felt spooky at first. The trees are all mainly shaped into domes with shapes cut into them. The notice board said that the best time to visit is September when they have been newly trimmed.
We had great fun trying to figure out what some of them were. As you walk along the avenue they seem almost to be watching you. We had a laugh as we imagined them getting closer and closer to us like in the old game of “what’s the time Mr Wolf”. We imagined spinning around and finding them on our heels suddenly frozen. LOL. It was fun.
It is possible to get inside some of the trees and I confess that when the urge for a pee became too much I actually used one as a shelter! Simon stood guard despite there not being anyone else there. Lol! When you gotta go, you gotta go!

We are planning to go back in September with the grandchildren.
We had a leisurely drive home. We stopped briefly at Rutland Water but it started to rain so that was cut short.
We stopped off at a local pub for dinner which I mentioned in my Click and Share yesterday.
