Finally time to do today’s photo challenge which is: 29. A teddy bear. I have always loved Teddy bears and have a small collection including 2 that I have had from childhood. I will show you them another day. The ones I want to show you today only joined me about 2 years ago. They are all from my Mums collection.
Mum had a small collection of very nice bears and also dolls. When my Dad was clearing out some of Mums stuff after she went into the hospital he decided that it was time to get rid of some of her collections as they gather dust and create more work for him. I must admit that when he first started to get rid of her things I found it quite upsetting. We all knew that she was never coming home ...ever... but it still didn’t seem to be right clearing all her stuff as if she were dead already. I am used to it now as he has gradually emptied the house more and more.
Anyway this teddy bear is a Steiff bear that my Dad got for her some years ago when they were on holiday in Eastbourne. He is quite large as you can see. My Mum nicknamed him Eastbourne Alfie and he still has that name.
He sits on the top of the chest of drawers in what used to be Verity’s bedroom but is now the playroom! He is surrounded by lots of his friends. Most of whom came to live with me at the same time. The grandchildren can’t reach them but they know that they are not to be played with anyway because they are precious.
From left to right back row we have: Mishka the mascot of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. I got this bear for my Mum when I was in San Francisco in the summer of 1979. Quite why I thought a Russian mascot bear was a good souvenir is anyone’s guess! Next to him is Snowy. Simon got him for me not long after we first started to date. The fluffy one on his lap is a handmade one that I got at a craft fair. Then we have the little one on the chair wearing his glasses. I don’t think he ever had a name but he was my Mums. Then there is Eastbourne Alfie.
Left to right front row: A cherished teddy that Simon got for me when we visited Boston Massachusetts on 1999. The next 2 are ones of my Mums and I don’t know their names. The little one with the hat on was bought for my Mum by her brother in law Ron when they were on holiday some years back. Then lastly there is the Steiff Millennium bear that Dad got for Mum at the end of 1999.
I have lots more which I will show you another day.
Don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day of November and the challenge is. 30. Your favourite kitchen utensil.
