Now for the last thing that I needed to look up. When were we all born?
Well I have done my research and I have the details for my family. As follows:
Me: I was born on a Saturday
Simon: was born on a Monday
Samuel: was born on a Saturday
Coralie: was born on a Sunday
Verity: was born on a Saturday
Saskia: was born on a Monday
Joshua: was born on a Thursday.
I got all the dates from the brilliant web site www.timeandate.com It will give you the day of the week for any date in history. It saved me getting out all the childrens baby books to check my memory. I did actually remember 3 out of 5 of them correctly! Interesting that 3 out of 5 of them were weekend babies. Two born on a Saturday like their mum.
So how do we compare with the old rhyme?
'Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go;
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child that is born on the Sabbath-day
Is bonny and blithe, good and gay.'
Well Simon and Saskia should be "fair of face". I certainly believe that is true of Saskia but then it is true of all my children!! As Simon is my husband I obviously think he is handsome so he must be "fair of face" too.
Joshua has "far to go" I'm not to sure what this means really but as he is the fifth child it could be taken to mean that he would have a lot to follow on from, if you see what I mean. He certainly seems to be managing though.
Me, Sam and Verity all "work hard for a living". I think that's true in various ways of all 3 of us. Sam is a really, really hard worker. He can't relax and he can't sit still; he always has to be "doing". He has always been "in work" and works long hours.
Verity has had to work very hard to overcome various obstacles and to get where she is today. She is very determined to succeed and is proving to everyone what she is capable of. We are very proud of her. She is currently looking for her first teaching post as she approaches the last term of her post graduate course.
Me? I haven't had to work "for a living" since I got married, but I think I have worked bloody hard bringing up and taking care of, a family of five children. Not to mention, 1 husband and currently 3 dogs!
That leaves Coralie. Lucky Coralie, according to the old rhyme she is "bonny and blithe and good and gay". She is bonny and she is good, she is also gay...... that is assuming that we are using the old meaning of gay, as in joyful and happy. She isn't the other kind of "gay"!!
So it seems the old rhyme can be interpreted however you want really! As I was doing this I have had a vague feeling of deja vue. I think that I may have blogged this before! Iwill have to check! Something else to do!
