Time for a catch up I think. I get so consumed with getting my DPT posted that I forget to say what I have been up to all week!
Well as usual it was a busy one. All the normal housework got done of course. Early in the week we had Saskia at home over night and that was nice.
I took delivery of most of my seed potatoes mid week and I have got them all spread out on trays so that they can “chit”. That means, grow their little shoots. I have them on the floor in Josh’s room as it is light in there but nice and chilly! We have the heating turned off in there as he isn’t at home. It is an ideal place for seedlings and the like.
On Saturday Simon went to the allotment in the morning to get on with some more digging. There isn’t too much more to do now. He is hoping at half term that the weather will be good enough and he will then rotorvate the whole left hand side. We have bags of leaf mould to incorporate. The potatoes won’t go in until mid March so we have plenty of time still.
While Simon was out I sat and went through all the seeds and made up a list of what we have and what needs to be planted when. Simon had the cheek to ask why I hadn’t done it as a spread sheet! He has been a teacher too long. In the afternoon we went to a local garden centre to pick up some John Innes number 3 compost for our rose bushes and some seed compost.
On Sunday Simon worked in the front garden making a little bed for the rose bushes from Verity and Steve’s wedding. They had been sitting in their pots in a sheltered part of the garden waiting for the ground to be right for planting.
While he was occupied out there I planted up some seeds. Parsnip seed went into soil filled, toilet roll inners, like they did last year and that worked well so hopefully it will again. I am still using last year’s parsnips. We had parsnip and swede mash tonight with bacon chops and cauliflower and broccoli cheese.
I also planted some strawberry seeds that came as part of a Christmas present from Coralie. They need a bit more light so they are currently sitting on the end of my kitchen table. Then I did a few pots of herbs, coriander, lemon balm and mint. I am going to order some seeds online tonight. We want to try leeks and sweet corn this year.
After lunch Sam, Lisa and the girls stopped by. They were soon joined by Verity and Steve who had come from Cambridge to see Coralie. As it turned out we all ended up going to Coralie’s house as Verity had made a cake for Steve’s birthday and wanted to share it.
We had a very nice time and got cuddles with all the grandchildren and the grand pup, Barclay! He is getting very big and gangly now. My sister keeps saying she is going to come up and see him but I don’t think she’ll believe he is a puppy! He is gorgeous and not quite so “bitey” as he was! LOL.
No photo of Flynn because he was having his nap when the camera came out!
That brings me up to date I think. I have quite a busy week ahead as I will be looking after the boys for a while on Wednesday and again on Thursday. I also must get to the library tomorrow to collect a book that I ordered. There is the normal round of housework to get done and of course I want to get time to work on my projects too. I really need a lot more hours in a day!!!!!!
