Time to do the daily photo theme which is: 8. A photo taken a mile down the road from where you live. (Suggested by Nancy)
Well Simon and I were out on our bikes earlier this morning but although we did about a mile and a half it was a circular route via the shops so we could post some letters and pay in some cheques. We were never more than about half a mile from home.
I have been using Google Earth to measure out my routes. Hopefully I won’t have to do that much longer as I have a cyclometer that Coralie gave me and I am hoping that Simon will fit it to my bike over the weekend.
Google Earth is excellent and it allows you to zoom in on places so I went to the village of Marholm which is just slightly over a mile from us. According to Google Earth the Green Man is 1.15 miles away so it is ideal for today’s photo theme. The Green Man is a pub. Over the years we have had many drinks and meals there and many occasions have been celebrated there. It changed management recently and we aren’t so keen on it now. It has got a bit pretentious and put its prices up too. We will still go there from time to time though.
It is actually called The Fitzwilliam Arms but locals have always called it the Green Man as it has a huge topiary at the front shaped like a giant man’s head. If you were to ask a local where the Fitzwilliam Arms is you would not end up at the right place!
In the photo taken from Google Earth you can see the main road which goes through the village. The Green Man is the thatched building sort of in the middle. The Green Man is the bush that you can see to the left of the main door. It’s a shame that you can’t see it clearly. I guess that I will have to cycle over there and take a photo for you. It will be longer to cycle as I wouldn’t cycle on the main road. Maybe I’ll do it one day next week if the weather is good.
We have an 80% chance of rain today according to the weather forecast. It hasn’t come so far. I hope it holds off until later this afternoon as Simon is doing a green wood working thingy until 3.30pm. I’ll tell you more about that another time.
Right, I fancy a cup of coffee and I may even have a bite of lunch today.
