DPT 19

Today's photo theme is: 19.   Spring Equinox.  Well I think I must have been in a muddle over this as it is actually tomorrow!  The spring equinox or the  vernal equinox to give it its proper name, heralds the start of spring. It occurs when the  day and night are both approx 12 hours long in the Northern hemisphere.  The sun crosses the celestial equator going northward. It rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west.

Of course this year we have this super moon phenomenon too.  Apparently the moon tonight is the closest it has been to earth for 20 years.  An optical illusion means that it should look bigger and brighter than normal.  I have read just now that it should look 30% brighter and 20 % larger.  I just had a look from my garden and it does look very bright and possibly a bit bigger than normal but I don't think I would have noticed if I hadn't been told!  I tried to take a photo of it which I have never been able to do successfully and .........I couldn't tonight either!  This is my result!
So what did we do on this day before the spring equinox?  We did spring time stuff at the allotment!  It was a lovely bright day and very sunny.  It was even very warm when you were in the sun.  The temperature dropped rapidly after 4.30pm though and it is now minus one!
Simon rotovated the left hand side of the allotment ready for the potatoes some of which will go in tomorrow if it isn't raining.  I planted my little cauliflower seedlings and covered them with fleece to keep them warm.  I hope they survive. They were getting to "leggy" at home on the kitchen table.   I also made tea on Simeon's gas bottle burner!
We were visited for a short while by Sam, Ellie and Jessica.  Lisa was having her hair done.  Coralie, John and the boys also called by for a very short time.  All in all it was a good day.  Sadly it is now being ruined by the very loud music coming from next door.  We woke to it this morning and it was going when we got in just before 6pm.  I assume they have been at it all day. It really is terrible.  I can feel my heart beat sort of thudding along with it.  Simon has gone to his barn which is just as well.
