Peterborough, the city where I live is in an area known as The Fens or Fenland. The Fens are largely made up from reclaimed land. It was marsh land which was drained many years ago. The Fens are very flat and very low lying. In fact they are the flatest part of the United kingdom and the lowest. Parts of them are below sea level. In fact in many areas the roads have to be built up above the drainage channels and you can see for miles and miles across open countryside.
