DPT 9 - A shell

Time to do the daily photo theme.  Today it is: 9. A shell.
I quite like shells.  I have the world’s largest collection.  I keep them scattered around on the beach, you may have seen them!
Seriously I have a few.  These first 2 are on the windowsill in my bathroom.  It’s funny because somebody said yesterday that they keep their bathroom functional and don’t have much in the way of ornaments or decorations in their bathroom.  I realised today that mine has all sorts of bits and bobs.
This shows a few from a small collection that I have.  They were picked up on various beaches.
This next one is a sand dollar that I got on Martha’s Vineyard back in 1999.  I guess it isn’t exactly a shell but I love it and wanted to show it to you. Did you know that Sand dollars are also known as the Holy Ghost Shell? The markings are said to symbolize the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.
On the top side of the shell you can see an outline of the Easter lily. In the middle of the lily is a 5 pointed star representing the star of Bethlehem.  The 5 narrow openings are representative of the 4 nail holes and the spear wound made in the body of Christ during the crucifixion.
When you turn the shell over to the back you can see an outline of the Christmas poinsettia and also the bells. When broken open the inside contains 5 little tiny pieces called the doves of peace.  They are sort of v shaped, like a bird in flight.
That’s the legend of the sand dollar anyway!
Tomorrow’s theme is: 10. A pebble.
