Entry for 13 August 2007 (copy)

Busy, busy, busy! I am cleaning my oven today, whilst also doing the normal washing and ironing. I also have to make sure that the spare room is clean and fresh ready for when Coralie stays next week to look after the dogs.

Only one week to go. This time next Monday we will be at the airport. I also need to start making a list of what we need to take. I have a standard list on my computer, but it varies slightly depending on where we are going. I shall have to start making sure the things we want to take are ready. Fortunately, we don't need to buy anything apart from sun tan lotion.

I am just having a quick coffee while Simon is out. He has gone to Sainsburys for some milk and washing soda. It's going to take him a while because he has to also go to 2 different places to get car bits for his hobby. I hate cars!! In this house they seem to be more important than anything else. Not a day goes by without some mention of cars.

I stayed up late to watch the meteor shower last night. It wasn't as spectacular in terms of number,s that I had read about on the Internet. I did however see about 30 very fast moving ones. There was also one really big one that was spectacular. I have never seen anything like it before. There was a really big flash and it shot a long way across the sky from left to right. It left a kind of trail behind it, which was visible for a minute or so after it had gone.

I have got quite interested and may try and stay up tonight to see if I can see more. Although yesterday was supposed to be the peak day, it does continue for another few days. I have also started to read an astronomy book by Patrick Moore. It seems very interesting.

Until yesterday, I thought a meteor was just another name for a star, or shooting star. I also thought that a meteorite was a bit that had dropped of a meteor and fallen to earth. I have learnt that meteors are the debris from comets and a meteorite doesn't come from a meteor at all but is debris from the asteroid belt.

Well best get on with some more jobs. I have half cleaned my bathroom, so I need to get that finished and then get the next load of washing on the line. It is drying well today as it is very windy. No sun though! Then back to that oven.
