Entry for 16 November 2007

Two days and no blogging again! I have been quite busy with house work the last two days and also Coralie has been round. Yesterday, I also started on sorting out a large built in cupboard on my top floor landing. It has become a bit of a dumping ground the last few months. I got quite a long way with it, but haven't yet actually finished. I got waylaid when I found some old school books of Saskia and Joshua's which I started reading through. They were very entertaining and I may post some of the stuff later, just to embarrass them! That's what Mums are for!
Today, Coralie and I went into town for a while and I did manage to make a start on buying Christmas presents. I am very behind this year. I usually have loads bought by this time. I have to pace myself as I am not a keen shopper, especially at this time of year when the shops are crowded.............generally with incredibly stupid people!!
We had one such lady in front of us at John Lewis today. She was returning an item for a refund. I don't know what it was as I couldn't see. She handed her receipt to the sales woman who told her it wasn't the correct receipt. She handed over another receipt, same thing......it wasn't right. So she handed over another, still no good..... at that point she fishes in her handbag and gets out a purse, which is stuffed with receipts! Why are people so stupid? Everyone knows if you want to return goods to the shop for a refund then you are going to need the receipt. Why not get out the correct receipt at home before you set off and put it in with the item you are returning??
It's like those people that get on the bus, then look at the driver like...."oh, you mean I have to pay??" Then they spend a few minutes rummaging around in their handbags, then a few more minutes going through their purse, then even more minutes rummaging through their coat pockets, finally producing a twenty pound note! Everyone knows you have to pay, preferably with the correct money, so why not have it ready in your hand???? I hate stupid people. That's my rant for the day.
Simon is going to his barn tonight to finish up taking of the spare parts from our Citroen. He wants to get them all on eBay over the weekend and then the car can be scrapped. I gather its taking up valuable room in the barn! I am going to have a nice quiet evening doing some sewing in front of the TV.
The "Children in need" thing is on tonight so there will be no Eastenders. Sometimes the Children in need thing has some good laughs, so I expect I will watch that. For my friends across the pond who are all going to be saying what is "Children in need" .... It is a charity event that is held annually in the UK to raise money for children in need, both here and abroad. Lots of celebrity's take part in the televised show but ordinary people also come up with lots of ways to raise money too. There are collecting tins everywhere.
Personally for me it is something that I don't get involved in at all and I do not give money to. I will explain why and no it is not just because I am mean! Many years ago when Joshua was still at school, the playschool managers applied to Children in need for a donation of £500 for new ride on toys. They were given the money and all sorts of toys were purchased. You may think that that sounds OK.
Let me tell you something....... this was a privately run playschool with children who were all from middle class families. It had every kind of toy and piece of equipment you could imagine, most of which were in good repair. These children were most definitely not "in need". Now I would happily donate money if I could be assured that it was all going to go to real cases of "need"; but no way am I giving money for it to be given away on something like that. Sorry. That's another rant!!

The sound of Music on Children in need 06
This was from last years Children in need appeal. I wanted to post the video of The Spice Girls singing their new song "Headlines" which is the official Children in need song for 2007. Personally, I think it's pretty rubbish and the video is merely an excuse for the 5 of them to cavort around in their underwear showing off their surgically enhanced bosoms. In places Victoria Beckham looks like she is in some kind of cheap porn movie. I wish I could have posted it to get other peoples views. Unfortunately, although it is on You Tube in full, the BBC have denied permission for it to be copied at this time.
Right that's about my lot for now. I have had a couple of rants and now I am going to watch some TV. I leave you with one last thing...................................................
Back tomorrow, have a good weekend everyone.
