I am tired today. I think I may have over done things the last few days. I did try to work my "half hour" system yesterday but I had so much washing and ironing that it didn't really work. Today I am definitely sticking to it as I'm too tired to do anything else! I have cleaned the kitchen and done some ironing and now I am having a coffee and sitting at my computer until 10.30 before I start on the bathroom.
It's a horrid blustery day here in Peterborough so my dogs are curled up on the bed next to me. I am reading through some blogs and have just done Oliver's maths test. Later today I think I will sit and do some of "Bobs" embroidery.
Speaking of "Bob", the latest news is that they will definitely be inducing him/her on Monday if Coralie doesn't go into labour naturally before then. Monday will be about ten days early. That's assuming the dates were correct and nobody really knows that. Coralie is just about coping but she is very tired due to the diabetes. She has had a couple of nights in hospital again being monitored as "Bob" wasn't moving. It's all very worrying and it will be a tremendous relief to finally have him/her with us.
I just remembered, I don't think I mentioned that the little sales assistant job that I went after a few weeks back.... I didn't get. I had the letter form them last Thursday which is probably why I forgot about it. I usually get anything that I apply for, so I was a bit surprised. Maybe it was because I told them that I wasn't well !
Anyway, I'm sure it is for the best as I am probably not really up to working at the moment. I shall just enjoy the summer sitting in my garden........if the weather ever improves! Over the years I have only ever worked sporadically and although it's nice to have a bit of extra cash to call my own, we can manage fine if I don't work. I didn't work when the children were little at all. Simon starts at his new school at the end of August and the promotion will give us a fair bit more so that will help.
A lot of my American friends have been posting about the huge rise in the cost of utilities and petrol. It is a similar state of affairs in the UK, but possibly not quite as bad. Some of my American friends have been reporting 50% rises in the cost of Electricity! Here in the UK the cost of both gas and electricity have been rising steadily for the last few years. Petrol costs are also rising, almost daily. We count ourselves very fortunate that we are able to meet all our bills and that I don't have to work.
I wish it was as easy for our young people. My son and his wife have a big mortgage to pay on top of all the other bills. He works five and a half days a week, 10-12 hours a day. It's hard to see how he can work any more hours. As for my other children, it's hard to imagine how they will ever afford mortgages to buy their own homes. Ours was a luckier generation.
Having said that, it wasn't easy when our children were all small. I was at home, so I didn't have an income and Simon never earned much. Then when we had 3 children, Simon went back to University to do a teaching degree. Saskia, our 4th child was born while Simon was at University. It was very hard living on a student grant with 4 small children and a mortgage!
I will always remember that when Saskia begun to walk, she had no shoes and continued to wear soft soled bootee type things. My Dad gave us the money to buy her first proper shoes. I think this is partly why I try to buy bits and pieces for Ellie when I can. During those years I never bought a thing for myself that wasn't an absolute necessity. I wore the same clothes for years. I suspect that is why I am still not much of a shopper even now, when I do have the money.
I do worry though, that so many of todays young people seem to have to have the latest and best of everything. So many young mums insist that they have to go out to work because they need the money. I am sure that some of them do. I am equally sure that if some of them were to cut down on their expensive tastes for "labels", they may find that actually they could afford to stay at home. For some it is a matter of choice not necessity.
Gosh that was a lot of waffling! I have over stayed my allotted half hour, so it's time to go and get started on the bathroom and the hoovering for half an hour!
Just finished the hoovering, so I have come back to post this. After I had done the hoovering, I decided to move the travel cot from Veritys room on the first floor of our house, to Saskias room on the second floor. Saskias room is totally empty so I thought it would be better in there. Of course, I didn't do the logical thing and dismantle it! Oh no! I carried it up as it was.
Our stairs turn half way up and they also have shelves on them so they are not as wide as normal. I got stuck half way up! It was much heavier than I thought it would be. I couldn't unwedge it at first and I couldn't turn it either, so I eventually lifted it up and over the banister rail. Nearly gave myself a heart attack and a hernia! Bet it raise mt blood pressure too. Not really one of my best ideas, especially as Simon would have moved this evening if I had waited. Still it is now in Saskias room, so all's well that ends well!
Think I need a coffee now, except I have been limiting myself to one (occasionally 2) since I have been poorly. As you know, I have already had todays one, so it's going to have to be a fruit tea. Can anyone tell me why they always smell so much nicer than they actually taste??
