It is a quarter past eleven and I am only on my 3rd cup of coffee. I had to pop out this morning to go to the post office. Since I got back I have been busy emailing and phoning my sister and one of my Mums Building Societies. We are trying to move some money and you would not believe how difficult it is.
We have a Power of Attorney that we have registered with this Society. They photo copied all our ID weeks ago and said it was all fine. It was a whole saga at the time because they wanted a utility bill with my name on and I don't have any. I can't possibly be the only married woman whose husband pays all the bills, can I ?
To cut a very long story short my sister has spent the last 2 days lunch hours in the Building Society trying to open this new account. My Mum already has accounts there so they do know us. Yesterday they told her that they couldn't do it until they saw all our ID.
I phoned them this morning to explain that they already had it. I was told that our photo copies have been shredded because they don't keep them and they don't have the information on computer because the Data Protection Act prevents them storing this information.
The Data Protection Act, as I pointed out, was set up to protect confidential information stored on computers!! I asked if that meant that we would have to go through this rigmarole every time we need to do something. He said no because he would make sure that it was kept on their computer!!!!!
Despite the fact he had just told me they can't do that. Clearly they are talking bollocks and need to go on a course to learn what the Data Protection Act means and what it covers.
As you can see I am very, very annoyed. All we want to do is move some money into a higher interest account which is what they suggested we do. Personally, I shall not be opening any accounts with the Leeds and Holbeck any time soon! I have to say that over the last couple of months while we have been sorting out Mums financial affairs, we have not encountered these problems any where else. Obviously Leeds and Holbeck are unique!
Due to all the messing around on the phone I am now really behind. I should really be getting some hoovering and ironing done before I go to school. So, thought I would have coffee first and relax! I have a very big exam to invigilate this afternoon so I don't want to be frazzled before I start. Maybe another cup of coffee will help! I have only had 3 so far so I am a bit behind.
