Well here I am again, sitting in front of my computer. Today has been another busy day. We finally got round to booking a hotel for our visit to Dublin this morning. It's in a place 4 miles from the city centre called Castle Knock. It sounds nice and wasn't too expensive.
Talking of expense, I was very pleased with myself yesterday. You will probably recall me saying that we had to go and buy a new Dyson hoover as my last one was dead. Well, while Simon was in school yesterday morning, I spent about two hours doing some research on the web. I checked out every store that I could think of for availability and price. Would you believe there was a variation in price of £110!!
We purchased a Dyson Animal (Comes with turbo head for pet fur!) from Comet for £189. The exact same model in Tesco is £299!!! The next best deal to the one I found was in John Lewis for £199. I was really pleased that I had spent the time checking out the prices. I have used the new hoover today and can report that it is working well! I can't recommend Dyson highly enough for it's ability to cope with Doggie hair.
The old dead one went to the dump this morning, but not until Simon had removed various bits and bobs. I am going to put them on Free Cycle for anyone who needs spares. They are no good to us as the new one is a different model.
This afternoon we went to a garden centre called Baytree Nursery in Spalding. That's about half an hours drive from us. We have been there before about 20 years ago! It is one of the biggest garden centres in Europe and we were just amazed. It's a brilliant place and so big! You could easily get lost.
It had the most amazing flower displays with a lot of things that I had never seen before. It sells absolutely every garden related thing you can imagine. We got 2 Clematis plants to grow over our trellis arch. We also got 10 solar powered lights which Simon has already got in place along the edges and around the little deck. We will probably put the Clematis in tomorrow, so expect more photos.
We are both coming to the conclusion that gardening must be something that you become more "into" as you get older! Neither of us have ever been really interested until the last couple of years. We have done quite a lot of work last year and this, and it is looking good now. The only thing is that the first lot of turf that we laid has already been killed by the doggie "wee". The second lot, which came from Baytree, seems unaffected so far and we spoke to the lawn man at Baytree today and he said it is a very hardy variety, so we will keep our fingers crossed
Simon is going to try and remove the dead parts and patch in the couple of rolls that we had left over. The lawn man also told us that it is the "wee" of the girlies that causes the problem. He told us about a product called "rocks" which is a mineral from Australia; which you just place in the drinking water. It releases minerals into the water which don't harm the dogs but apparently stop the "wee, wee" from killing the grass! I am going to research this and see if I can find it. If any of you know of it then, please let me know.
This has turned into a long blog. Tomorrow, I will try and find the time to post some photos of the barbecue that we went to at Sam's in the week and also some of the photos taken on Thursday evening at the school ball. I think Simon was a bit sad yesterday as he had been at Walton 21 years. A lot of colleagues that he has worked with for many years are not going to the new school and in some cases he will probably never see them again. The school has now been handed over to the demolition team, so it is definitely the end of an era!
Simon and Saskia now begin the 6 week summer break and will go back to the new Voyager school on the third of September. Simon and I have our trip to Dublin next week and our holiday in Madeira in 4 weeks time to look forward to. All we need now is for the sun to come out and the rain to stop!! Oh damn, just remembered we are not talking about the weather!
