Entry for 25 November 2007

FOUR WEEKS TILL CHRISTMAS!!!!!
It's been a busy weekend. Fortunately I am feeling much better but Coralie and my Dad are both really suffering with nasty bugs. My Dad hasn't been able to visit Mum for the last 2 days and he is upset about that.
Yesterday I finally got some Christmas shopping done. I went very briefly to Tesco to pick up some birthday cards that I needed and then I popped into Next and in the space or 5 minutes got 2 presents! Excellent. When I got home I ordered a whole heap of stuff from Argos to be delivered. Unfortunately half of it was out of stock at the central ware house!
However, I was able to reserve it all for collection at our local store. I sent Simon to collect it this morning and he managed to get into town and collect the stuff and get home in 45 minutes, so that wasn't too bad.
Today, we have been busy with all the normal chores. I had to make sure that everything was up to date as I am in school all next week for the year eleven mock exams. They are just in the morning, so I will hopefully be able to get home just after lunch time. This afternoon in between doing piles of ironing, I have been on-line and ordered some more Christmas presents from Amazon. I am amazed at what Amazon sells now, they used to be Books only!!
I am finding that ordering stuff on-line is way less stressful than braving the shops! I have now got everyone sorted out with a main present except my Dad who is really difficult to buy for and is just not interested in Christmas this year. Understandably. Also, I still need something for Adam too. (Verity's partner)
All I need to do now is to concentrate on buying a few smaller (less expensive) things for my children. We are not having stockings this year, but I will try to buy some small gifts. It has been great fun buying toys again after so long! I have a fair few things for Ellie. Next year will be great because she will be beginning to understand.
I have also begun a list today of all the Christmas food shopping that will need to be done. I usually try to buy some of it each week while doing my normal shop. The stuff that keeps, obviously!! We do the rest of it at the last minute in our local Sainsburys.
I did get a turkey yesterday in Tescos. We always have a frozen one even though I know that fresh generally tastes better. I can't get myself organised to order a fresh one. There have been stories in the news that turkeys will be in short supply and very expensive because of the out break of bird flu here in the UK. They were half price in Tesco yesterday, so it seemed a good idea to get one and stick it in the freezer. One less thing to think about.
It looks like this will be our smallest Christmas so far. There will be me, Simon, Verity and Josh, possibly Saskia but she may be working. Sam, Lisa and Ellie will come Christmas morning but are then going to Lisa's parents house for Christmas dinner and the rest of the day. Coralie and John are going to John's parents in Derby.
Coralie and John will be with us for Boxing day though. Adam is going to Ireland to be with his family. I am trying to arrange for us all to get together at my Dads house on Sunday the 23rd. The idea is that we will all go to the hospital to visit my Mum. We will have to take turns. Then the grandchildren are going to go off to Dads house to prepare a meal so that we can all sit down and eat together. I know Dad is going to get really emotional.
Right, time to go. I am going to go and have a bath now as I am going for Chinese with a friend tonight. Simon is over at his barn and I want to get all the ironing finished and my bath out of the way before he gets in.
