Well, where do I start? It has been one very busy week!! You will all know by now that my little grandson arrived in the world on Tuesday morning after a very long struggle.
Coralie went into hospital to be induced early on Monday. It took until 3pm for the contractions to begin. Coralie and I had spent the day walking round and round the building to try and get things moving. Nanny was already exhausted!!!
Once the contractions did start they progressed rapidly. I popped home for an hour or so at dinner time, mainly to get some food for them. When I returned, things looked like they were going well although she was still only 3cm. We moved to the delivery room and she still seemed to be doing well. I left about 11pm and the midwife told me she thought it would be about 4 hours or so.
At 5am, I rung them to see what was happening as I was just so worried. I didn't sleep the entire night. At that point she was still only 5cm and I kind of thought myself that it would end in a cesarean section. Evan's heart beat was going down so they performed a section and he arrived at ten to seven on Tuesday morning.
I was back at the hospital really fast. He was only 3 hours old when I saw him! He was a big baby at 8lb 6oz, but actually doesn't seem as big as I was expecting. He is lovely and Coralie is just besotted and entranced by him, she can't take her eyes away from him.
Yesterday she was so tired and nearly falling asleep. I was holding him because she doesn't like him in the cot. She would doze off then jerk awake, all in a panic.... "where is he? You have still got him, you won't let anyone take him" I had to keep telling her that I wouldn't put him down and I definitely wouldn't let anyone take him! I hope that wears off soon, or he will be really spoilt. I suppose it's only natural given what she's been through to get him.
Just realised, I haven't said much about him! He's cute and cuddly! He has quite a bit of dark brown hair and very dark eyes. He is covered on his little back and legs with hair! Feels like puppy fur when you stroke him. Obviously it's because he is early, it will go in a couple of days. We think he must take after Johns side of the family as he definitely isn't a "Glenn" baby. We are all finding it very difficult to remember that he is Evan and not Bob, even Coralie!! I think that will be his nick name.
I stayed at the hospital all day. Simon picked me up and we had a quick meal before heading back again in the evening with Sam, Lisa and Saskia. Josh and Charlotte had visited her earlier.
Yesterday was another busy day. I wanted to sleep in, but I had some stuff being delivered form Argos some time between 7am and 1pm, so I had to get up and dressed before Simon left for school in case it came. Of course it didn't come until five to one! Typical!
I caught the bus to town, once the Argos stuff had arrived. I did lots and lots of "blue" shopping and then went back in to the hospital. It's not the same as "pink" shopping, but I did get some nice stuff which Coralie was really pleased with.
While I was there they gave Evan his first bath. Coralie showed John how to do things, so it was John that actually gave him his bath. Being a midwife, Coralie is an old hand!! Evan seemed to like having his hair washed but objected very loudly about the bath!! I videoed it for them.
I haven't been into her today as Johns family were visiting from Derby. It is their first grandchild so I thought it only fair to let them have him all to themselves. Coralie will probably be there until Friday or Saturday.
Today, I have been catching up on housework and changing the beds (as well as a bit of blogging!). Verity is arriving home late this evening, on a very brief visit so that she can see her new nephew. Lisa called in this afternoon with Ellie which was really nice. She is just so gorgeous.
Simon was in school until late as the children were doing some practise runs in the Green Power Electric car. They have a race on Tuesday. Simon has just gone out to get fish and chips as I was too tired to do anything about dinner. Hopefully we will get an early night tonight!!
