Entry for 30 May 2008

Well time for a catch up. We have been busy since Wednesday. First of all was the anxious wait for news of Coralie and "Bob". As I have already explained, she seems to have had a false start and things have all stopped. This is probably just as well as she still has, maybe 5 weeks to go. I say maybe as there has been confusion over her dates from the beginning. Last week at her 34 week scan the consultant measured her at 38 weeks so there is now a 4 week discrepancy! We will wait and see, it will come when it's ready. Just a shame that we all have to go through the anxious waiting again!
Today and yesterday we have been bus with the garden again, although I had a reprieve yesterday morning as I went to Sam and Lisa's house to look after Ellie for a while. Saskia came too and we had a lovely few hours playing. Ellie was a good as gold, she is a little darling. She likes clapping now and claps when she hears it on the TV!
The garden has really progressed now. Simon has been working and working in between the rain! It has taken all week to get it dug out and get the sand down and levelled. We didn't have enough sand so we had to go and buy more yesterday and again today. I went too today and got some more bedding plants.
Thankfully the rain held of today and late this afternoon we finally unrolled the astro turf and Simon got it cut roughly to size. It is now laid in place. There is one large bit and then a smaller bit that will have to be joined.
Tomorrow, before he goes to London, weather permitting, Simon is going to cut it to size and smooth it down. It should have wooden batons underneath which it is nailed to, but he has decided to let it settle for a few weeks first before doing that. The reasoning is, that if there ends up being any low or high spots, he can roll it back and re-level, before finally nailing it to the frame. Seems good logic.
The dogs had to be shut in the kitchen while we were levelling the sand to avoid big paw prints all over it! They watched through the patio doors. Oh yes, before you ask, I did do a bit of the raking and levelling! Simon did most of it though!
Once the astro turf was laid in place we let them out and they were so funny. They sniffed all over it first of all and then Loulou threw herself down and rolled all around like a crazy dog! Once the others saw that they had to join in too. So did their Daddy. You can see this on the video that I have posted. (Yahoo folks will need to check my Multiply to see it, sorry!)
Anyway, hopefully either tomorrow or Sunday it will be finished. We did get up 2 lots of trellis on the back fence today and planted 2 Honeysuckles. Hopefully as they are in pots the dogs won't wreck them and they will give a bit more privacy when they grow. They were quite big already and I have wound them all through the trellis. They look good. I'll take some photos tomorrow.
I'll be home alone tomorrow afternoon and evening as Simon is going to London with Saskia. They are going to see Bruce Springsteen in concert with Simon's brother and his wife. It is at the Emirates (Arsenal) stadium. I won 16 ticket for 4 different Bruce Springsteen concerts! 4 tickets for each venue! I turned most of them down but we had the 4 for Emirates and 2 for the Millennium stadium in Cardiff. I am giving those to my friends Ali and Di who will both be in England at the time (14th June). They are big "Brucie" fans, so they are pleased.
None of us are real fans. In fact I only know 2 things by him: "Born in the USA" and "Dancing in the dark". I was going to go to the concert but it is a huge venue and I am not good at such things, so we decided to let Saskia go instead. I am sure they will have a lovely time. They will be leaving about midday tomorrow. I will have a lovely time at home!
Right guess that's it for now. Simon should be in soon. He has been over at his barn tonight with Sam and a friend Jeff. They have been trying to "fire up" his truck, what ever that means!!
