I'm back!!! It seems like forever since I did my last blog. We have been away for a week and got back on Saturday. Yesterday and most of today have been spent catching up on washing and ironing etc, etc. Seems like I never went away.
We had a nice week staying on the Isle of Man. It is a lovely island, with some stunning scenery. The only thing is, that it would be far better in nice weather! We had absolutely rubbish weather, which included snow, sleet, rain, hail stones, high winds and a bit of sunshine!
We stayed in a nice hotel in the capital city of Douglas. This is the biggest of the 5 towns on the island. The others were more what we would call large villages. They are all very pleasant with little traffic. Being an Island it is obviously surrounded by the sea and you are never very far away from it. In many places on the island you can see the sea on both sides of you.
Talking of the sea ............ If any of you ever hear me say that I am even considering going on any kind of boat in the future .............................. Please remind me that I HATE THEM! OK.
The ferry crossing going over was, in retrospect not too bad, although at the time I didn't like it and felt queasy. I was very glad to arrive. Coming back was a whole different matter! On the morning we were due to leave we awoke to very high winds and the view out of our bedroom window showed huge waves crashing onto the beach. They hadn't done that all week.
Straight away, I was saying to Simon that I didn't think I would be able to get on the boat! He checked the weather forecast to see if it would be better the next day and that maybe we could stay an extra day. The next day was forecast to be the same. I contemplated flying back while Simon took the car on the ferry. The problem with that was that they are only small planes and with the wind, I thought it would be scary. If we hadn't had the experience of the dodgy landing when we came back from Fuerterventura in October, then I think I would have done it.
Anyway, by lunch time although the wind was still strong, the sea looked calmer and Simon persuaded me that we had to get the boat. BIG MISTAKE! I should have flown. The boat was all over the place while it was in the dock. Before it left the Captain announced that we were going into force 7 winds and that it would be rough. They asked for people to remain in their seats as there would be a lot of rolling and pitching. HE WASN'T JOKING! If they hadn't already closed the exits, I would have been off of there.
It was dreadful, absolutely dreadful! I was so scared. Even Simon was really dodgy and he likes boats. Never, ever again. I knew I hated boats but I had convinced myself that it would be OK. At least I now know that I have got to go back to flying otherwise I won't be able to go anywhere.
Right, I have to stop here as it is nearly time for Eastenders which is looking interesting at the moment with the arrival back in the square of Ricky and Bianca!!! I will post some photos of the Isle of Man tonight.
