Has anybody else come across the paintings and drawings by Mark Ryden? I came across him, through a new friend of mine, Den. She has a painting by Mark Ryden on her blog and I was fascinated.
He is an American artist born in Medford, Oregon in 1963. His style is very different to anything that I have seen before. Very surreal. But actually, I have seen it before because he has done some album covers that nearly all of us would recognise . IE: Micheal Jackson's album Dangerous, had the art work done by Mark Ryden.
Below is another example of his work, called Clear Hearts.
Mark Ryden now works in California and has many works to his credit. They nearly all feature a combination of cartoon style mixed in with numerology, Catholic and Buddhist symbolism.
They remind me a little bit of the surrealism in Alice in Wonderland.
His latest exhibition is "The Tree Show", at the Michael Kohn Gallery, Los Angeles, California. Take a peek, it's certainly different.
