Monday 22 December

Sorry to have been absent since Friday but I have been both busy and not too well. I have read a few of your blogs but I’m afraid I’m not really up to comments just now.
Verity didn’t come home until Saturday lunch time as she was very tired on Friday evening. It was the end of her first term teaching and she also had some trauma in her own personal life, so she is feeling quite emotional at the moment.
I spent Saturday morning making a large chocolate cake to take to the meal for my Dad on Sunday.  I was feeling pretty grotty so once that was done I just sat and did a little sewing.  I had a very early night but I couldn’t sleep as my tummy just felt really weird.  I kept thinking I would be sick, but once again it didn’t happen.
We were up early on Sunday as we all had to get ready to go up to Stevenage.  Saskia finished decorating the cake for me and made a trifle. We left about midday after much discussion on who was going with whom and how to fit everyone in.  The original plan was for us to collect my Dad but by the time we had 6 people in our car and Evans buggy there just wasn’t room. Luckily my niece Carly went for him which also meant he went straight to my sister’s house and had a break from hospital visiting.
That wasn’t really what he wanted but we think it does him good to have a break occasionally.  He visits my Mum, as you all know every single day.  She had all of my family going in so she certainly wasn’t alone.
The visit went reasonably ok.  She was very agitated when we first got there and Coralie and I spent the first twenty minutes chasing her up the corridor and trying to get her to come and sit down.  She did eventually!
By the time the second lot of my family arrived she was at least in the same room as us! She hadn’t got a clue who any of us were which was very sad for those of my children who don’t get to see her so often.  Verity hadn’t seen her since last Christmas because of course she lives in Southampton.  We did get her to open a Christmas card but I didn’t even attempt her Christmas present.  I gave it to Dad and he said he would take it in today.

She did seem to quite like her 2 great grandchildren which was nice although there was no way she was going to hold either of them.  We got some nice photos.  We stayed about an hour and a half in the end and she seemed to be ok.  We couldn’t get her to say goodbye and one of the care workers took her off to have a cup of tea.
We went from there to my sister’s house in Arlesey for the Christmas dinner for my Dad.  He got there with Carly not long after us.  It was lovely to have all of us together although of course Mum is always missed at these get togethers.  I think Dad enjoyed it all and especially seeing his 2 great Grandchildren, Ellie and Evan.  They were both very good but tired towards the end.
Julie and Pete had done a wonderful Christmas dinner which was ready right on time.  It was delicious although I didn’t eat much as I still didn’t feel right.  I even declined dessert so I must have been feeling dodgy!
I went straight to bed when we got home and I still didn’t feel right this morning. I haven’t been sick but my tummy definitely feels weird.  I only ate half my breakfast and I haven’t eaten anything since.  I have just done a little bit of tidying around today and watched a bit of TV.  Hopefully I will feel back to normal tomorrow and can get all my housework done ready for Christmas Eve.
