Thirteen Tuesday

It seems like forever since I have done the Tuesday Thirteen. In fact checking back, I have found my last one was at the beginning of October! Todays thirteen are things that mean something to me beginning with the letter "N". As usual they are in no particular order!!
1. Names. I love hearing all the weird and wonderful names that people give to their children now days.  There are some very strange ones and I find it interesting to learn how they came about.  Most people know that David and Victoria Beckhams eldest son is called Brooklyn and the story goes, that is where he was conceived!!   I actually like the name and it makes a good story. I don't think it would work the same though if you were born in say... Stevenage like I was.  Imagine being called that!
Some people think that my girls names are strange, but they aren't really!  Coralie is french and not at all unusual in France.  Saskia is Dutch and very common in the Netherlands.  I am sure that I have mentioned before that Rembrandt's wife was called Saskia and there is a famous painting of her (she was very ugly!!)  Verity, although it is not as common now as it once was is an old English name.  I also love to learn what names mean too.
2. Nannies.  As in Grand mothers.  My own "Nannies" were fairly remote people as was the way with their generation.  We saw them at least once a month, but the visits were not something to look forward to.  The adults sat and chatted and we had to sit and be quiet.  In other words.... "to be seen but not heard".
My Mum was a totally different kind of Nanny to my children.  She saw them regularly and looked after them for us when we wanted time away on our own.  She had them to stay for a week at a time while we went off abroad!!  She played with them, bought them treats and took them out.  She spoilt them all, and she loved them.  Sadly she doesn't recognise them now.  I am a Nanny now too.  I hope I will be the kind of Nanny to little Ellie and any future grandchildren, that my Mum was to my children.
3. Negative.  I am a negative person.  I do try hard not to be, but I am.  My glass is always half empty, never half full.
4. New things.  I love trying new things.  They can't be risky in anyway though,  as I don't like to be too far out of my comfort zone.  I like to learn.
5. Naughty.  Simon calls me a naughty girl.  You will have to ask him why!  Personally, I think I am a very good girl!
6. Nottingham.  I went to Nottingham for the first time recently with Coralie, Lisa and Ellie and we had a lovely day.
7. Night time.  This is my favourite time of day.  I am definitely not a morning person.
8. Net.  No not a net to catch things with.......... the INTERNET!!  Where would I be and what would I do without the Internet??  I love it.
9. Novels.  My escapist drug of choice!  I have always been a book worm even from the very youngest age, I had my nose stuck in a book.  I read all sorts of things, but I do like a good long novel.  There is nothing quite like opening up a new book for the first time.  The smell and feel of it is wonderful.  I got 10 books from the library today
10. Nature.  I love nature and everything that the word encompasses.  The countryside, animals, the sea, trees, plants etc..... the list could go on and on.
11. Nuts.  Chocolate covered Brazil nuts are my all time favourite.
12. Nude. I walk around my house often in the nude!  I like the freedom of not having to bother to get dressed.  I don't do it when we have visitors though!!  I also wouldn't mind giving a nudist beach a go.  I think it must be lovely to lay on the beach with the sun streaming down.  I often sunbathe nude on holiday on the balcony of our room, but only if it's private and I can't be seen! I wouldn't want to offend anyone.
13. Necessarianism!!  Ha!!  I couldn't think of a thirteenth word so I went to the Phrontistery and looked at the "N" words until I found one that I liked!  It means, the theory that actions are determined by prior history.  I like that.
