I have done all the jobs that I wanted to do, so I am just having a coffee before going out to the shops. I thought while I was drinking coffee I would do the Tuesday Thirteen which I haven't got round to for ages. I had been working my way through the alphabet using each letter to list thirteen things that have some special meaning for me. The last one that I did was the letter "T". That means today should be "U"!!
Hmm....."U"...not too sure about that! What else is left? V, W, X, Y, or Z? I can do a V, a U, and a W but that still leaves me 10 short of 13! SO....... I shall do U, V and W and for the other thirteen I will do 10 thoughts for today, which is what some of you do on Tuesdays anyway.
Here goes:
1. The letter U brings to mind Utah. A state in the USA. Actually I could have said USA, couldn't I? Simon and I visited Utah many, many years ago in 1979. We travelled right across America mainly on Grey Hound buses. Do they still exist? It was a mammoth trip and we stopped off at all sorts of places. We were both really taken with Utah and it is somewhere that I would like to return to. It would be interesting to see how much it has changed.
2. The letter V is obviously for my daughter Verity. She is our middle child and was born in 1984. She just turned 24 last week. She is currently in the last couple of months of her Post Graduate study and is looking for her first teaching post for September. We are very proud of how far she has come and what she has achieved.
3. The letter W? Wendy, who else? Most of you know Wendy and know that she is my cousin, the daughter of my Mums sister Glad and her husband Jack. Wendy and I spent a lot of time together when we were young and have been there for each other over the years as our families have grown.
Wendy is also now going through the same experience as me because her Mum also has Alzheimer's. No matter how much time elapses between us seeing each other, we always pick up just where we were before. We talk on the phone but also keep in touch on here. I am looking forward to seeing Wendy and Nick at Coralie's wedding.
4 . Ok, time to start on those 10 thoughts! first one....... I really need to drink my coffee and get a move on to get up to the shops as I will no doubt spend ages in the library.
5. I must cut down on my coffee consumption and also start my third attempt at the "No diet, diet"!
6. It is a beautiful day here and the birds are still singing. Loulou is still sun bathing on the deck. I have even put washing on the line rather than in the tumble drier. The plants are staring to grow, which leads me to thought number 4......
7. We really must buy the astro turf and begin to sort out the garden. I intend to spend a lot of time sitting in it this year.
8. I am very, very, lucky to have the time, to be able to do what I want, when I want. This will change soon as the exam season starts shortly and I will be very, very busy. This will be the last term that I will work at the Voyager school as it will not be a viable option once Simon leaves. I would have to get 2 buses there and 2 back, which would take ages.
9. Simon is going to his barn tonight and I plan to watch Eastenders and then have a nice long bath, with a glass of red wine, some candles, a lush bath bomb and my current book which is The Apprentice by Tess Gerritsen. I have read all of her books now and I just love them. They aren't my normal kind of stuff but I have got hooked. They are all murder mystery type things set in Boston. The Apprentice is part of a set of books which all involve the medical examiner Dr Moira Isles and the police woman Rizzoli. They are very gruesome.
10. I must remember to ask in the library for the book "The Commoner" by John Burnham Schwartz. This is the book that I am supposed to be reading for April for our Purple Wearers book club. The Purple Wearers are an online reading group set up by my friend Ali who lives in New Zealand. If you would like to join, then take a look here:
We have 11 members so far including one man! We are mostly in the UK and New Zealand. We have a book to read each month which is chosen by a member. We all take our turn in alphabetical order. The last one that I chose was "Vanish" by Tess Gerritsen. That was the first of hers that I had read and the one that got me and Coralie hooked.
Recent books have included The History of Love, A Tale of Clyde Bank - Holy City, Brick Lane (this has been made into a film), Thirteen Moons and To Kill a Mocking Bird. It has certainly got me reading things that I wouldn't normally pick for myself. Once we have read them we each post our reviews at the end of the month. If you like reading then why not join us?
11. I really must get myself up to the shops!
12. Tomorrow I am going to make sure that I tidy out the cupboard on my top landing. It has disintegrated into a huge mess again!
13. Alfie is laying on the bed next to me. He is fast asleep. I am so lucky to be able to have 3 beautiful dalmatians. I love them all to bits.
