It is a horrible cold day here and it has been pouring with rain continuously. I am so glad that I don't live in one of those areas where they have had terrible flooding. I saw on the news last night just how bad it is in some areas of the country and more rain is expected. What happened to the Indian summer people were talking about????
Actually, I once saw a TV programme that predicted if global warming continues then in about 200 years Peterborough will be totally under the sea!! Apparently the rise in sea levels at "The Wash" would eventually flood places like Kings Lynn and the water would rise in the rivers and flow down to Wisbech and eventually to us here! A scary thought!
Mind you most of the surrounding area here was once under the sea. Peterborough is on the edge of the Cambrdigeshire Fens. The Fens are all reclaimed land and most of it still lies below sea level. As you travel out from Peterborough towards places like Spalding or Kings Lynn, the roads are built on top of huge banks. You can see the roofs of houses below you on either side, it's really weird and I can't imagine what it must be like to live in one of those houses.
Anyway..... I've veered off topic, some what! I didn't get quite as much done yesterday as I had planned, but today has gone OK. I have done all the hoovering and washing and ironing. I have made a batch of iced fairy cakes and have a white fibre loaf in my bread maker.
I am trying to get back into cooking and baking. That sounds odd...... I cook every day! What I meant was, I am trying to bake more and try out some new, more adventurous recipes. The soya and linseed loaf that I made last week turned out well, but I'm not keen on the taste of the linseed so today I have gone for white.
Tomorrow I am going to do a prawn curry type thing that I found in my Good Food magazine. I'm not usually too keen on curry but the rest of the family like it. This seems a really easy and quick recipe, with not too many ingredients and I can make it mild for me!
Today we are having "country chicken" which I think I posted the recipe for, in my recipe section. It's really easy, basically just chicken breasts with leeks and a ton of mushrooms in stock, cooked in the oven. Everyone really loves it.
Yesterday, I did a lovely shepherds pie. I made it earlier in the day whilst chatting to Coralie. Once it was done, I put it on top of the fridge as it was too hot to go inside. We were sitting there in the kitchen, when suddenly there was an almighty crash and the shepherds pie was upside down on the floor. I'm not too sure how it happened but think that maybe some vibrations from the washing machine, which is next to the fridge, had caused it to "walk" off!
It landed on top of a pile of dirty bed linen that was waiting to go in the machine. Josh had put it there. When questioned as to why he had put his bed linen on the floor and not in the basket, he said it was so I would put it in the next load! The shepherd's pie went everywhere as the dish was lifted and could not be rescued! I ended up scrapping it up and the dogs had it for their dinner. They were very appreciative! I had to scrap the rest of Joshuas duvet cover and then soak it in the sink before washing it!! I was not too pleased! We ended up having shop bought Cornish paties!
I was so fed up by the evening that I watched Eastenders and then sat at my computer playing around, trying to learn a bit about Photoshop. I have got a book, but it's quite complicated. I did manage to adapt a photo and join in with the Mono Monday thing. I also learnt how to extract things and place them in other photos, which is cool. It's easier to do with my new pen and tablet than it would be with a mouse.
These photos were taken in March. The lamb was somewhere in England, the road was somewhere on the Isle of Man! I'm quite pleased with how this tuned out and my little lamb looks quite at home!
This evening, Simon and I are going to go to Tescos to do the weekly shopping. It is more difficult now as I can't have the car much any more. With Simon at the new school, which is in the city center, he really needs to have the car and it is very difficult to arrange it if I want to go somewhere. Although my nearest shops, including Sainsburys are only a five minute walk away, I can't walk with a weeks worth of shopping!
Tomorrow, I am hoping for another quiet day, to hopefully do some of the things that I keep planning to do. Hobby things not housework! On Thursday, I am probably going to Stevenage to see my Mum and Dad with Coralie and baby Evan. I have still got to sort out the arrangements for the car though. I will also have to be back quite early as I am having my hair done at 5pm. Right, time to go and get started on the country chicken so it's ready when Simon gets home and check up on how my bread is doing.
