Walton closure (copy)

The doors of Walton Community School closed on students for the very last time on 13th July 2007. During the next week staff were busy emptying classrooms and removal teams were taking items away for storage. These photos were all taken by the people at Peterborough in Pictures web site. They were allowed on site on the last day of vacating the building (Friday 20th July 2007).
Simon says that the whole week felt very strange and almost unreal. I think he was secretly a bit sad. The last week felt creepy as some rooms were empty, with windows boarded up and no light in some areas. The corridors were covered in emotional and sometimes amusing messages, slogans, etc. from students and staff...
Most of the classrooms still had tables & chairs in them, but things like computers, noticeboards, books, etc. had been taken out or stacked up in a corner.
Empty class rooms.
More empty rooms.
And still more.
The Gym corridor.
The Bartram Hall where I spent so much of my time as it was the main exam venue.

Outside view showing the entrance to the DT block where Simon spent 21 years. The bit of blue in the middle of the photo is part of the new Voyager school.
Simon's work shop.
Another message from the wall.
