Walton Community school, Mountsteven Avenue, Walton, Peterborough opened it's doors to students in 1938. It has been the school where Simon has taught Design and Technology since 1986. A total of 21 years, he is one of only a handful of staff to have been there so long.
As well as teaching, Simon ran an out of school club called Green Power Racing. Green Power is a national organisation that encourages children to design and make their own electric car; which they then race on professional tracks against other schools. Simon put in lots of time and energy along with some very enthusiastic children over the years. They won several trophys and I will try to find the articles to post.
I started to do exam invigilation there five years ago. It was almost by default. The rules regarding exam invigilation were changing and the school were desperate for some outsiders to help with invigilation. The exams officer posted a plea in the school bulletin, which Simon showed me. I decided it may be worth it to earn so extra money for holidays etc..... I have been there ever since!
As the rules for exam invigilation changed further, it meant teachers were no longer permitted in examination venues, so I was "promoted" to Senior invigilator. Last year both Saskia and Joshua joined the staff as teaching assistants bringing the total of Glennsansum's on the staff role to 4 .... an unrivalled record!
In the new Voyager school we have dropped down to 3 as Josh decided that he didn't like being a teaching assistant! Simon and I will continue in our roles but Saskia has changed to a language assistant. She will be involved with the languages faculty, mostly doing French. She will be also be involved with dance.
Walton Community School held an open day on the 30th of June 2007. It was organised by Denise Jeffries, a long standing staff member; to celebrate the school's achievements over the past 69 years. Past & present staff, students, parents and the general public were invited in to have a look around the school as it is now, view archive material, witness the digging up and opening of the time capsule that was buried in 1985 plus much more. Simon quite enjoyed meeting lots of former colleagues.

This is the main entrance & driveway in to Walton Community School.
This is the entrance to the girls' side of the school. This entrance is no longer in use as obviously this is now a mixed school.
This is the original part of the school at the front, with the opening year visible.... 1938.

Message wall on the Library & Student Support building. Former students, staff and visitors were invited to 'sign' the wall. This was very popular throughout the day and many people commented about feeling a bit naughty doing this!

The time capsule being buried on Friday 14 June 1985.
The time capsule was dug up 22 years later, Saturday 30 June 2007.

The opening and displaying of the contents of the capsule - items of clothing (Walton school uniform), newspapers, etc. John Catton on the left was the final head teacher of the school.
